WTB Aristocraft flat cars

Raymond, I looked at the picture by the OP in the first post.

I don’t see anything that looks 52’ long, 40’ is more like it.

Am I missing something in your suggestion?

Greg

Thought the same too ! Sure look like 40s.

Although from here; http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rsPicture.aspx?id=356646 they state "less than 53’… " Could just be a default category though.

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1269439 better side shot but don’t see a length dim. It’s ‘hiding’ in the white on black area.

p.s. but then who cares, even I seem to primarily have 40’ flats and box cars in a 50’+ world  AND run with H’nLs

Hi Greg,

There’s a prototype for everything! Pic looks about 40’ maybe, but I thought someone said the aristo flat wasn’t 40’ to begin with (sorry I don’t have one to confirm), and they were talking about starting with aristo gon which I really thought was longer than 40’ (but maybe I’m off as I used to lengthen them).

Etherway, even if you have to shorten the LGB flat, it still has a nice fish belly profile me thinks…

I bought at least 24 when they were on blow out sale to do a ribbon rail train way back when, but never got around building them (live steam bug bit me!)

Hack it up!

The are definitely not 50 footers… I can measure them, but they are the same length as the 40’ boxes from my memory.

That’s why I asked, because a 53’ flat looks long and modern to me.

Greg

“40 ft.”, Aristo gons, flats, including the bulkheads (and very likely the box cars) are all the basic ‘footprint’ of course.

Measuring a (cp) bulkhead flat outside sill - outside sill 427mm, which equates (CTTInc 1:29th rule) to basically 41’ !

Gon’ due to more material added onto the ends, os-os is a little longer, but since the chatter is btwn 40-53, I did not bother measuring the (algoma) gon’ *

*unless this WTB thread, has turned into a ‘rivet-counters’ modelling thread.

It wasn’t the length, it was the pop off deck that the poster was suggesting. Chopping cars happens all the time.

Devon was disappointed that the Aristo cars didn’t separate like some smaller scale cars he modified.

When the LGB deck comes off are the support beams shown?
