Large Scale Central

Work in process

That is a really neat idea for using the PVC. I will have to file that in my bag of tricks to use.

Nice rock work. Your pvc bridge piers look pretty good too.

Excellent work all around. Very nice! It’ll be a real kick to see a train winding along the hillside and over that bridge.

I would like to officially announce that I’ll be stealing that idea for the piers. VERY neat idea.

Neat idea and I like it. The paint looks very real on the piers.

It’s been a busy winter but I’ve found a few hours here and there to keep the project rolling. I finiished the bridgwork using the PVC technique. Here is the last section:

Next up is a trestle bridge combination. The bridge is reclaimed from an earlier layout. The trestle is new. I placed one end of it today. I measured up a bunch of bents and fitted them. It was a challenge since the trestle contains a free-form curve and is sloped three degrees. Here is an early fitting: http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/socaljoe/_forumfiles/T4 (640x383).jpg I fabricated pylons using the PVC technique:

Today I permanently placed the uphill side of the trestle. Here are a couple of shots:

Lot’s of work left to do, including lots of details. I got an air nailer for Christmas and that really sped up the process. Everything is nailed and glued with Titebond III, plus a stain/sealant gel coat.

Not sure what happened to the “early fitting” photo, but I am sure you get the idea.

One more view looking the other direction:

Another great idea. Thanks for posting.

Joe, There is a space between T40 and the size(640x480).

Impressive trestle & bridge.
Ralph

Wow, Joe. Great looking trestle!

Will this work…

Yup. Needs image tags and a %20 for the space.

Joe - Did you carve the blocks from the PVC board? I’ve found it very easy to carve.

Great work Joe! Where abouts are you in SoCal?

Really nice bridges

Jon:

Yes, I carved the PVC with a small routing bit in my Dremel. Then I roughed up the surface with a steel wire bit.

Hi John:

I’m down here in beautiful Simi Valley, just north of L.A. county.
