Lots of very interesting logging railroad info here:

Alan, the WI&M Ry Co is the railroad my layout is based on. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

I had forgotten that Steve, however I knew my post would not be about things unknown to you. A few years ago I read an interesting article about the WI&M. It has always maintained my logging railroad interest. I do have a couple of flats with log loads but no logging facilities for them. I just assume they are passing through.

A 1:29 scale Shay? Oh, I certainly hope no one starts making one in a reasonable price bracket. I have already talked myself out of a few of the Bachmann jobbies. I have one already, I do not need a fleet of them. But I would have to have one in 1:29 to run with my other 1:29 stuff if one came out for less then the price of a good used car.

The Central liked them for City Dummies…

Didn’t frighten horses as much when disguised… were nimble on the docks and in city canyons with tight corners.

I doubt seriously if anyone in the picture is 6’ tall… so no one in the picture has an 8 foot reach, that’s why I stated that I am 6’ 2" and just barely have 8’ reach.

Jose, you stated that the man is 7’ tall… doubtful unless he was wearing a basketball uniform ha ha! Probably a typo on your part. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

so about 1.5 times his height, and about 5’ 6" times 1.5 is a bit over 8’ diameter, but again I think around 10 foot.

interesting and fun discussion.

And yes Steve, I am coming up to visit you, Paul and TOC pretty darn soon… I’ll be sure to wear a Hawaiian shirt so you guys will know I’m from San Diego ha ha!

Regards, Greg

Greg,

If the tree is 8 feet in diameter that means 4 foot radius. If the center of the tree is at his knees which it very clearly is (he is standing on the piece left between the wedge cut and the back cut which is never center if cut correctly) then that means by your analysis that from his knees to the top of his reach is only four feet. I am 5’9" and it is 4’ 1" to the top of my head. So if your correct then this man is only about 5 foot tall.

No way. not buying it. Over 10 foot diameter.

Greg, look forward to the visit.

The Bo’s’n aboard McClusky once said, “The great thing about Hawaiian shirts is that you can barf on one, and nobody can tell.”. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)
