What's working for you?

Lone…

Great idea if I had the time. There is a working model of one that still exists on the New Haven done in HO (I think) that is shown every year at the Amherst Railway Society’s Big Train Show at the Big E (Agawam, MA). Took the guy 5 or ten years to build. Even in HO the thing is HUGE.

My indoor bridges are much more utilitarian. The one in the picture is bare bones. The new one is a lot prettier, made of pre-finished boards (an old water bed frame) with nice rounded edges. If I were to paint it gray, it might pass for a concrete structure.

So the Bascule will have to wait until I retire, and then it will be built in Z (with the aid of a microscope) 'cause when I retire we plan on converting this house into one with 10 wheels and a big diesel engine and spend all our time traveling. That is if gas stays under $50/gallon :o

You are correct. A Bascule in G Size would be huge.

I’ve been a Wanderlust most of my life, so the freedom to travel has always felt good. I’ve seen 80% of the entire world and now feel very comfortable staying home.

Life is a Rail Journey…Enjoy the ride and the scenery.

Jon ,
D’ya wanna swap places with my son Martyn ? He drives all over in big rigs --and little ones-- and still finds time to enjoy modelling trains .
The down side is he looks after me as well . Ah , well , nearly perfect because he loves trucks , travelling and trains .The Three T’s .

OOOPS !!! Thread .
What’s working for me is mah boy .

One of my friends, who has become a Garden Railroad bug, retired out of Boeing (he broke the 777 and has the video to prove it), built a metal model of the Salmon Bay GN bridge just north of downtown Seattle.

He even has gas shocks to lift it when you pull the pin…you pull it down by hand and latch it.

Works fine.
