Large Scale Central

What will you do first on your RR?

First thing I did was get the roadbed level, then worked on the siding in Mancos where the whole thing had lifted out of the ground. Next was realigning the passing siding behind the depot in Mancos. The K kept hitting the platform when it went through, so I moved it about a 1/2".

Now I’m working on getting the new mill and spillway situated correctly. I’ve also noticed a few plants that look like they didn’t survive the winter, so I’ll be keeping on eye on them and replacing any that didn’t make it.

All this between getting the rest of the yard in shape.

I worked on roadbed some. Then had to take out about 5 dwarf spruces that died over the winter. One was 20 years old from my layout when I lived in town. Did open up the RR some, can see the town better, but sort of miss them.

Yesterday I stained the benchwork at Franklin Falls, and today I re-installed the track, with a wider spacing so everything can pass everything else. Next up is the engine facility there, and ballast around the turntable at Burke.

The other track issue is at Majestic, I need to re-stain some switch ties, and fix the mainline track on the approach. The spline popped off its support and moved some ties around,

Generally speaking my RR does not hibernate although it did have a quiet couple of months late last year and into 2014 when we were hit by monsoon weather

But whenever it is dry - and I am not occupied on other matters - trains will run even if for only an hor or so.

The maintenance here, presently, is removal of thick petals from a large magnolia tree and pricking out seedlings that are growing in the ballast. Ballast replacement or screeing will be a summer job as will be the repainting of my larger structures if they need it. I think the grain elevator is due for a freshen up. I prefer to rpaint regularly rather than let the paintwork deteriorate or flake.

One small alteration was made to the spur to the 'chocolate; facility. I decided to move the oil strorage tank to the approach rather than the end of the lead. It looks better that way.

Well I will guess today was the first day of the season for me. We hosted my wifes family easter dinner and once my wifes family found my small pizza inside the house they got excited and wanted to see the other layouts which was rather embarrassing cause one: I like to keep my hobbies for myself, I have had bad experiences in the past when some folks had a negative reaction when they found out what I do so I keep alot of it to myself. And two: And this is the embarrassing part, the garage was a complete disaster of a mess. But they really amazed by it and they were very positive about the pizza. So I guess I’ll be fielding more from that side of the family as well. My side has always known I was a train nut since I could walk so no surprises there.
