What!? No National Garden Railway Convention!?

It’s economics, I feel with the model railroad hobby in somewhat of a decline, and I say somewhat because I don’t know the exact economics of the hobby, but I say this from what I see. I’ve been in many scales over the past 50 years and now I’m down to G Scale as my last scale and that’s most likely where I will end the hobby of model railroading. I went to the First Garden Railroad Convention in Denver, can’t remember the year, but I have my name badge somewhere around the house. Mark Horowitz was there,

and we went to his home where he had a small circle of track out by the street where his LGB engine and a few cars ran around in a circle. I hope Mark reads this forum he might remember the two guys from Texas, only around 35 people attended the convention at a small college in Denver. I have remained in G Scale over all those years, all my railroad is LGB and I have stayed with the scale 1:22.5 all these years, all is redone to my railroad as I’m a modeler first and a runner second. If I was to start over today it would be the 1:20.3 Scale, I really enjoy modeling. Here is a pic of one of my railroad engines redone to my liking.

Hi Bill,

Yep, plenty to see and do over here. We like it quiet…

If your need any extra reasons to help convince Herself, Wairarapa is a foodie /winery destination as well. If she is into that sort of thing (as if trains be wouldn’t enough??).

I won’t be going to the convention this year, my step father has just finished radiation treatment, so I’m flying to Auckland that weekend and spending a day with him at Glenbrook Vintage Railway.

He was a volunteer in the workshops there up to about 2000, till the work got too heavy. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a back shop tour if it works out…

Cheers
N
