WAVES BATTER UK TRAIN.

TAC, no need to apologize. Just banter among friends. I enjoyed learning about your adopted home.

When it comes down to it, we are all immigrants of one form or another. Even those whose roots go back to before Hadrian, their ancestors most likely came from somewhere else.

Well, you ain’t seen nothin’, yet! Stay safe.

The UK faces the WORST hurricane-force winds and torrential rain this winter and possibly for DECADES. This is due to happen shortly.

Ya’ done went and upset Terry …On topic I saw that the ballast and rail washed out shutting the line down

No I didn’t, Rooster.

They just showed a clip of the waves on GMA and said the buildings which are about 3 US lanes away from the wall have suffered water damage up to the 4th floor

Yes water damage on the 4th floor of the buildings

What the pics in the previous post do not show is the damage the more recent 90+ mph winds and up to 35ft. waves caused to the containers which were filled with ballast and sand. The report says that it has added two weeks to the schedule making Mid April completion. Many areas of soft coastline around England and Wales have been removed by scouring due to the storms.

Hopefully this web cam will be updated:

Work continues repairing the line. The weather has backed off and conditions so far have been quite good. A completion date seems to be Mid April
Materials used so far…
1,500 tons (tonnes?) of concrete & 50 tons of steel that was up to Wed eve 26th Feb.
It is estimated that 5000 tons of concrete will be needed to complete.

Re-construction work is making very good progress. Now the ferocious storms have eased of crews are able to work 24 hours per day instead if the 18 which resulted from the two high tides per day.

This was the worst breach but there were other issues on the main line such as quite a few landslips and of course lines inundated by flooding. In the River Thames area groundwater caused flooding as well.

It is hope the line will be re-instated before the mid April target.

Penzance (the end of the main line from London) is still not open after it was inundated by the sea.

One of the other happenings after the storms have been that some places have lost cliffs and bluffs along the southern coast and on many beaches large quantities of sand have been scoured away to reveal ancient wrecks and very ancient forests.

Have a look here for the rail storm damage.

This shows the damage after the storm and the work now underway to repair it.

They are getting set to induce a landslide of unstable ground above the line for safety reasons.

Aerial video view by “drone” of work on the UK rail line cut by storms. They are causing a “landslip” of cliffs which threatened the work in progress. They hope to have the lines reopened around April 4th.

NEW quality forage from drone 25 March. Here you really can see the extent of the damage.
