I guess we are supposed to vote in all four catorgaries rather than three as in the voting instructions.

Dave Taylor, you have again supplied the community with a good bit of entertainment during the cold weather. The builds I’m sure have kept a few of the members up at night and shown the rest of us some new modeling techniques.

I’d like to also thank all the participants for their contributions to the challenge. They have made it very hard to pick one over the other with so much originality and craftsmanship.

My votes are :

For the MIK award … John Caughey cobbled together from parts that were there and a really great napkin employed with ‘detail’ post its.

For Best build log … Doc Tom and his B’ar Ketchin’ car (even though I didn’t see a pic of his trap trip with bait on it, nor did I see it in action)

For 1st time entry … Eric Schade ---- the carved operating Moose and track will be kept in file for when a ’ can’t ’ tought enters.

and my favorite three builds are

  1. Dave Maynard and his Literal Interpretation BOBBER caboose

  2. John Passaro the St. Francis Railroad Branchline Manager’s Headquarters and Traveling Pay Car. — as long as this car runs it will draw the interest of those watching. Maybe it will provide someone the incentive for " I can build it myself"

  3. Terry Burr ‘Exploratory Vehicle 1701’ is just great thinking outside the box (or should that be 'Inside the track)

This was great fun! I enjoyed doing my project, I learned a lot and Especially enjoyed seeing the others come along and reading the logs!!!

I am not really qualified to say what Mik liked to do but I liked the use of found stuff and odd bits…

Mik style: Todd Brody! California dreamin!

So many cool projects, they all get my vote but If i have to choose:

Favorine build #1: John Passaro! 10 points for Griffindor!

Favorite build #2: Shawn Viggiano! A very useful clockwork engine!

Favorite build #3: David Manard! Crazy whimsical while being perfectly serious!

Rookie build…heck they are all new to me!

favorite Rookie build: David Maynard! brake hangers, Geeze!!!

best napkin sketch: Matt Kirichuck! He must have done his before dinner!

Best Build log Vic Smith! Wallace and Grommet sure know what they are about!

Wow that was hard work…I had to study for a few days to figure this out!

Gentlemen, I’ve been putting my vote off due to the obvious hardship of trying to decide. But alas I need to tend to my civic duty.

MIK Style: John Caughey’s critter. Definitely in Mik’s style, using one piece from 100 jig saw puzzles to make one new one.

Favorite Rookie: Dave Maynard’s very literal Bobber. Very amusing to say the least.

Best napkin: Matt Kirichuck’s very delicious looking napkin is a no brainer. Really enjoyed all the metal work that went in to this build too.

Best Build Log: Doc Tom’s B’ar Ketchin’ car kept me laughing the whole time.

Favorite builds:

  1. Eric Schade’s Moose Chariot. Incredible vision, humor, craftsmanship and story.
  2. John Passaro’s Managers Headquarters. Taking the challenge to new heights!
  3. Terry Burr’s Exploratory Vehicle 1701. This one will run at anyone’s railroad

Congratulations to everyone who participated! You all have inspired me and have helped make LSC the best place to hang out in a very big way!

I have been watching this years “BUILD” as I do every year and have not said anything. I find it incredable that we have such GIFTED people on this FORUM

I feel that the Mik Style should go to Todd Haskins.

Some great builds!

Mik’s Style: John Caughey - I didn’t know Mik, but if his spirit is to take existing train and household parts to construct usable working trains, then this seems to best fit the category.

#1 Favorite Build: Eric Schade - Loved the concept and having the ability and skills to pull it off is just off the hook!

#2 Favorite Build: Todd Brody - So much happening in such a small space and truely fits the “Rube Goldberg” mentality. The concept and implementation of the “One Horse Motive Power” and actually having this portion of rail car separable to run anywhere is novel and I’ve never seen it done. Other inovations, like the anti-gravity bridge, keep the observer’s eye and mind occupied. (How does he do that?)

#3 Favorite Build: Dave Maynard - They say that the pun is the lowest form of humor, but Dave has elevated it to new heights.

Favorite Rookie: Eric Schade - Just too cool! Can’t touch this!

Best Napkin: Vic Smith - Executed as drawn with lots of detail.

B****est Build Log: Doc Tom - Really enjoyed following the saga.

Honorable Mention to:

Matt Kirichok - Got to be the cutest of the builds and if I got to see it operational, may have been a favorite.

Terry Burr - Loved the idea and implementation. In Dune they “fold” space. But Terry has now found a way to “roll” space.

John Passaro - The outrageous structure speaks for itself.

Gentlemen I have to admit this was a FANTASTIC build challenge and I really like them all. Voting is rather difficult but the whimsical theme was just outstanding this year. Congratulations to all of you guys for your time and talent and a HUGE thank you to Mr Taylor for putting this all together once again!!

THE SPIRIT OF MIK AWARD:… Knowing Mik I’m gonna have to go with John Caughey on this one and agreed certainly Miks style.

FAVORITE BUILD: 1st choice…Eric Schade (just fantastic)

2nd choice…David Maynard ( liked the reverse thinking on terminology and loved the brake shoes!!)

3rd choice…Terry Burr (don’t think I have ever seen anything done that way …very cool!)

BEST 1ST TIMER: …Matt Kirichok (as far as I know he truly is a first time builder and hopefully this inspired him to build more)

BEST BUILD LOG: …Once again Doc Tom nailed it…the “B’ar” (groundhog) put it over the edge (LMAO Tom)

Best Napkin Drawing…Matt Kirichok

Best use of a Round thing…Terry Burr

Best Fn3 (1:20.3) Build…Shawn Viggiano

Maybe some people have a problem with the “open” voting platform. I could certainly see that.

Yeah that’s possible but its all in good fun, it’s not like whoever wins will get a briefcase full of nuke codes

I say we take a vote to decide if it is necessary to vote on the matter of voting publicly.

Committees! must have an inquirey before votun, doncha kno?

This was all in good fun??? Oops. I wonder if I can get ahold of my mail man. Shoot. It might be to late but I hooked up with the boys over at Aaron’s place and Wiley gave me a few barrels of TNT to quite literaly level the playing field of some of these outstanding builds.

I think the public voting is great fun…I really like seeing lots of opinions and hearing why people voted for what. I seriously doubt anyone gets their feelings hurt by the voting, but being ignored might.

Besides, this isn’t like the old Soviet Union where you get sent to the Gulag for the wrong opinion, or, worse, the old Chicago in the '50s and '60s where Mayor Daley would stop picking up your trash!

So, go ahead and vote! I look at it as sharing in the enjoyment and as a sort of community reward for all our work, no matter whom you vote for.
