Where what is that Ace Hardware truck?

The truck is an Old Kenworth picking up seed and crates.
I been thinking of making one of them into a three axle tractor with hard rubber tires.

Yeah I like its looks…where did you aquire it?

Most of my stuff over the yr’s came from Evil bay. I got that for 6 bucks I think and paid 15 buck to get it shipped here. …hahaha.

Noel,

Back about 1965-66 there was a moving company around the San Francisco anchorage of the Bay Bridge That had two full size trucks like the ones your’e modeling. In your experience did you ever run across them or know what happened to them?

I ask because I had a chance to acquire one of them, but…the price was too high for a High School kid and I had NO idea how I was going to get it home to Oakland.

A little off topic,sorry.

Only one I knew was Bekins Van and Storage had an old truck they use to advertise with. Maybe
Richard Smith can remember due to he work the bay area for a bit around that time…
“I think that was about the time he was thinking of retiring in 65 or… hehehehe.”

Thanks!

May have been Bekin’s.

There were two trucks for sure and they were both in marginal condition at the time.

Those trucks came out great!

I was ready to retire right out of high school Noel. hehe!

Bill: If you are referring to the lowboys they were used in SF for city cartage way back even in the horse drawn days. I don’t recall seeing them in the sixties myself but most likely Noel is right and they belonged to Bekins who had a long presence in SF and Oakland as well. They had a big warehouse on Adeline street at San Pablo Ave. in Oakland.

What school did you go to? I graduated from Fremont HS and my wife went to Castlemont.

A sudden thought…(rare I know)…

I seem to remember a red lowboy I saw a few times, could have been more than one, operated by Merchant’s Express. They had question marks on them in addition to the name Merchant’s which got your attention.

Richard,

Merchants sounds better. These trucks were definitely at the San Francisco anchorage and I seem to remember they were parked under the bridge or a bridge access road. The company offices were right there too. They were low boys and the cabs are/were identical to the ones Noel is modeling.

I started high school in Richmond,Salesian, that didn’t last long and they strongly suggested I finish H/S somewhere else.

I graduated from Skyline in Oakland.

Fremont? Did you ever run into Bill Berrien? He left before graduation went to Miramonte in Orinda.

Bill

No I didn’t know anyone named Bill Berrien. I graduated in 1954.
