This is to those of you who can appreciate the nostalgia of the

As I am 64 now I have seen disrepect grow as I got older those that have been around suddenly are stupid
youth know everything and don’t mind telling you so… I have to agree with Freddie

Ed Oh yea, I can make change without a calculator

What is sad is that at 42 years of age. I look at the kids of today and ask myself what went wrong. Then I go over to my friends house and see what happend. If I ask why don’t you make your kid behave, I become the bad guy and told I don’t know what I’m talking about because I don’t have kids.

Funny story. My trains are in my front yard and at Christmas time I was out side playing with them. A man and his son stopped to watch the trains. The boy about 8 desided he liked the ideal of trying to derail my trains. I asked him to stop and pointed out to his dad that this was not good behaver. His answer was hes just being a kid. My answer to him was why don’t you just be a parent and stop his behaver. The look was priceless.

So on behalf of my geniration. Sorry.

The good side is. I don’t have kids so you really can’t blame me.

Oh boy…back on this subject again…and nothing has changed…
I still get that, “You don’t understand” bit, just because I decided NOT to have children.

I just tell them "No I DO understand, simply because I DONT have kids doesnt mean I cant see how bad YOUR raising them"

Any kid tries derailing MY trains will be shown the door. I do not want any kids anywhere near my layout for just that reason.

Fred not for or against anyone kids or no kids, but remember if people didnt have kids, YOU wouldn’t be here either! right?

Good thing I stopped the line with me…Would anyone in his/her right mind want any more like me…!!! I know that I wouldn’t…!!! …so I used good judgement…!!! More than I can say for a few people I have seen and met…

Jerry… Everyone is entitled to one mistake LOL Sorry Freddie just couldn’t resist

Ed (mistakes: 1 wife 2 ex wifes 4 kids I don’t make them I invent them) LOL

Oh boy! And this after a day of teaching the kids how to ski. Corker was the one who complained so loudly and incessantly that he just couldn’t do it, he never had the time to pay attention to what I said or showed him.
OK only one out of 24 today, that’s not too bad.

Positive: last week of instructions coming up!

My Dad played poker with the High School Principle, who was also the Football Coach. I didn't have a chance. If I screwed up at school (or got caught at it), I was a Dead Man Walking.
Yep, I can identify with the "get caught at it" part. I reckon the ratio was about 3:1 in my favour. Of course, the ones weren't funny.

I’m optimistic about today’s kids, but that could be because I rub shoulders with a group of 13 - 14 year olds regularly, about three times a week. They listen to my stories and laugh at my jokes, and I get a kick out of being with them.

Have you guys heard this one? I think it’s originally from the Rush Limbaugh show. One of my favorite actors from times long gone, Charlton Heston.

Charlton Heston speaks out about sacrifices

Jon.

Dave;

There is as you say, HOPE.

There are a great bunch of young people out there, that we seldom hear of.....they actually have self respect, respect for others, and will go on to be the leaders of the future.

Many young people today do have good parents, others seem to survive and grow, IN SPITE OF THEIR PARENTS.

Even though the worst of the group seem to make headlines, the great ones are out there just staying on the straight and narrow, without any fuss.

One of the mistakes we all make is to call the general group; “Kids”…that is terribly wrong.
“Kids” are the offspring of Goats. But that is the state of the English language these days…

Yes, your injunction re “kids” is fair. Typical Aussie stuff - why use two, three or four syllables when one gets the meaning across? I have been corrupted by too much exposure to slang and sunlight!

By the way, “Bluey” is Aussie slang for a redhead!!!

Can’t imagine working as a probation officer. My hat goes off to you, mate.

I work directly with around 8 young adults all the time as they complete their high school and college education. These are part time employees at the marina and one of the requirements is that we hire only students, if they quit school they loose the job. The group changes a little each year as they grow and move on to begin their adult lives, but they usually stay with us between 2 and 6 years. They are all great examples of our youth and work hard. They come from many different economic and family backgrounds, but they all know they have to be responsible, respectful and that they are replaceable. They are fun to work with and give me a lot of hope for the future. Comparing our generation to theirs, we’re a mess.

You haven't said what that program is called.

I call it a program and a half - what a great idea!

You lost me, what is the question?

I think that program is called “American Industriouness”!..

Now isn’t that something? Here I am, pre-supposing Ric and Jan are taking on these young people as part of some government program!!!

In my defense, I can only plead that I have been living upside-down for far too long!
