A reminder we have zero tolerance for politics here.
Who,why, where??? Did I miss something?
BTW it’s finally raining here today. Good lord knows we needed it
Glad to see your “final update” on FB and that you are getting rain, FINALLY
I can’t imagine being in your position. So glad you made it through to the other side.
That’s a shame, but I’m happy you still have a shop!
Oh yes, we got immensely lucky. Our immediate neighborhood is devastated and I mean that with no hyperbole.
More is gone than standing by far. No reason why we were spared other than simple fate.
Time to focus on rebuilding but it will be a long and slow process.
I will say a lot of my railroad equipment was overdue for a cleaning but I don’t care for the motivating factor here.
Thanks Jon we were able to drive through the areas that had been closed off. It was horrible. Block after block of burned homes plus some completely untouched. It’s surreal. The weirdest thing was seeing walls standing, then realizing that it was just the exterior stucco standing, all the wood was burned away leaving an empty shell. Like I said, surreal.
Patrick let me know if you need anything, I got more stuff than I can use in three lifetimes.
Thank goodness the rain held somewhat to the forecast, we were holding our breath. I was thinking about you today when i was cruising down Christmas Tree Lane.
We drove up it, the worst damage looked to be west and north of it, all of the little downtown off Lake was gone. A rare bit of good news, Super King (local grocery store with a rabid fanbase) has reopened. News of its demise fortunately turned out inaccurate, was almost giddy buying my headcheese at the deli.
If want to chat about it, drop me a PM and I can swing by
John
Head cheese?? Did t know anyone actually ate that stuff!!! Glad something normal( not headcheese) is back in your life and hope to hear people starting to get back to just life.
That is food for thought.
I’ve been back on a job, runs to March. My wife has been handling the insurance and mediation process. We got a small air Bnb in the Hollywood Hills as my trucks are sleeping nearby. Filming in the Valley and Burbank.
In good news, my Accucraft Goose finally arrived! It was scheduled to be delivered on the day of the fire so there was some delay.
Hope to run it this weekend. At least a loop.
.
I swear my iPad must be a separate LSC lurker.
I read that as well, never knew it existed until an article last December. The Large Scale community in SoCal is actually very dispersed and unless you are in an area with an active club (the term “active” being up for discussion), likely you will never know if your neighbors are train people in general, let alone G scalers.
The layout is really cool, its HO and HOn3. There is a LGB loop that runs outside across the front lawn however. It had recently been open during the holidays and got quite a bit of publicity.
I’m glad it survived, the northern part of that street got hit pretty hard.
I was up for membership consideration when this all went down, not sure what the status is now.
Lots of train folk here in SoCal in general. We’re lucky to have two excellent train stores very close by (Pasadena and Burbank) as well as several clubs. Also Travel Town and the LA Live Steamers as well.
I was able to do a lot of raking and some planting last weekend. Most of the vegetation seems to be thriving in the burn zone. Only bad parts are where we humans got in the way.
