The rich vs the rest of us

Seeing as how we have rasied the subject of International Trade, the big talking point in Australia this week has been the (alleged) disclosure of a private conversation Dubya had with our own Kevin (the dud) Rudd where Dubya is supposed to have asked “what is the G20?”. In that vein, here is the “Sunday Age” cartoon for this week:

The general idea when you sign international trade agreements is you have to stick to them.
Tony,

Have you ever heard the term “exceptionalism”?

It applies to many of the trade and other arrangements the USA has signed and does a superb job of circumventing, stonewalling and filibustering. Examples that many Canadians remember all too well are NAFTA and the Softwood Lumber Agreement.

They are building Chevrolets, Pontiacs and Buicks in Canada. What Canadian products are we building in the US, HJ ?
Ralph

Ralph,

You missed the target by quite a bit on this one.  I was writing “NAFTA and the Softwood Lumber Agreement”, nothing to do with the former Auto Pact!

Remember it’s “attention to details”

BTW please let me know if there are any good Canuck tapes in that bunch you’re getting.

Sure will HJ. Since tape will deteriorate and VCR's are a thing of the past, I plan to archive them to digital media. This way it will all be preserved for a few more years. Ralph

Victor!!!

No No No!!!

You don’t eat them. That is a once only use.

Milk them. So they understand what giving is all about, instead of just taking.

Tell me you all, are you still going to kick GWB around 8 years from now when BHO has TOTALED the USA and distroyed any and all freedom? I hope I can live that long to heard your stories then!

Paul

Hey Paul,

Are you predicting Obama will be re-elected in 2012 when he runs against Sarah Palin? That’s a fairly safe prediction, eh?!?
BTW Dubya is a “once in a lifetime” phenomenon, from what I read some Americans refer to him as “The worst President ever”. I don’t know, haven’t been around long enough, but he sure has his “major moments”! H2O anyone?

Hi Paul,
Rest assured, that if BHO stuffs up anywhere near as badly as Dubya has done internationally I will gladly lead the ridiculing against him.

I suggest we give him a chance before we start bashing his performance…Don’t have a clue as to what the next 8 years will bring but I am positive I’m not real happy about the last eight.

Exactly right, Mark. No sense in gripping about the unknown. Plenty of time to complain later if we don't like what we see. Ralph

Except we may NOT be able to complain after 8 years, you might disappear in the night. The Civil Internal Security Force (KGB) is part of his great ideas!

So Paul, do you think the unlawful mass wire tapping done by Bush and his cronies is harmless play? Apparently if the right wing steals my privacy in the name of the USA it’s ok, but if it’s the left then we call it the KGB? Two sides of the same coin!

I will wait and see. If Mr. Obama believes in similar attacks on my rights as Mr. Bush I too will scream for his ouster! I for one look forward to January 20th, and I hope the restoration of my liberty!

Dont you think the CISF would be just a renaming of the Homeland SS? :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually I think I just figured out what “politics” means, took me many years but I got it now…It’s when you ignore the sins of your own party and demonize the same actions by your opponent. Can’t believe it took me that long to figure out.

Mark,

There is a difference between theory and the variations in practice.

The fun starts with the adjectives to the different flavours i.e. slime-ball, spin-ball, slam-ball, snow-ball etc. etc.

Mark. I'm sorry that it took you so long but you have now arrived!

Maybe no govenment is better that TOO much on either side of the political spectrum!

I for one await the take over of your president, he is not mine!

They should put it up for a vote as to where that money goes. Let the public decide, instead of those rich Senators protecting their own interests!
We can't afford ANY of it. We can't even afford our upcoming social security and medicare obligations. This entire bail-out nonsense is insanity disguised as a way for politicians to "do something," even if it's wrong, which it is.

I believe that as long as the Republican party continues to support the BS of trickle down economics they will continue to lose election after election. I am beyond fed up with those clowns taking my hard earned wages and giving them to billionaires so they can throw expensive parties and toast expensive wine to my foolishness. I used to vote Republican most, now I'm embarased by their behavior.

God knows we would not want to assist our heavy manufacturing sector, a group that actually builds a product of tangible value. We’d rather hand it out to the money lenders who give us nothing but forclosures and bankrupcy. Screw 'em.

No, we DON’T want to “assist” (“bail-out”) our hopelessly screwed-up auto manufacturing sector. It is the excessively-high labor costs that we would be subsidizing and all for naught anyway. It is highly unlikely that these dinosaurs can survive even with public assistance which would go mostly to fund uncompetitive labor contracts. It would be throwing good money we don’t have after bad.

I don’t know exactly what you mean by “trickle-down” economics because the phrase has come to mean more than one thing. However, if you mean going back to “progressive” taxes–those that punish investors and take away money for investment–that will KILL the economy for sure. At least the Dems will have nobody to blame but themselves because it is ALL in their hands now, isn’t it?

This is the problem with bailouts… if you do it for one group, every other group demands it and everyone fights over which one is more deserving.

What wiretapping are you referring to, specifically?
