Large Scale Central

The benchwork is almost done

Wow - that’s quite a view you have there above the hedge line. RR is looking good too

why do you change from a “natural” layout to rails on sticks? to be above the snowline for winter runs?

It’s more or less all on " sticks", but once the roadbed is in I fill up with dirt to the right geological contour. We even have some sections that are mounted on boards, almost like you guys who try to avoid the weather. :stuck_out_tongue:  @ Jon, Thanks, Yes it is " Not half-bad" (as the New Englanders say), but the view from our little hill behind the house is even better.

...the operating scheme should be interesting enough with the track that's planned.
Once you hit forty switches you're pretty much guaranteed to have enough to keep you occupied... no matter how you arrange 'em!

Actually it’s more about traffic flow and how one can keep trains out of each other’s way. Of course there are “pinch points” that the dispatcher has to keep in mind or things will grind to a halt. The same as on the 1:1; longer trains need to be kept rolling - since those are mostly passenger trains it should click.
YESSSSS! On RhB Grischun passenger trains RULE!

Thanks HJ. I agree it’s pretty, but lakes and low round mountains I’ve got. It was that high rocky one that impressed me.

Jon, Here’s the Rocky One a few minutes ago

… And in brilliant winter sunshine (from the old Logitech webcam)

Oooops almost forgot, there’s a railway line along the lakeshore at the foot of the Rocky One

I take it that the RR will all be above ground level. Shall be interesting to see how this comes along. Later RJD

Actually most of it will be on the ground, the only sections that are raised are Samedan (staging East) to past Preda (just before the tunnel under the stairs) , after that it is only Thusis (staging West) that will be “on stilts”. Still a lot of landscaping to be done, bridges and viaducts to be built etc. etc.

Time to rip some TREX, for a change of pace.

Moving right along … ripped all the TREX I had on hand. Installed one set of strips, to be rechecked in the morning if the grades are exactly as per design, then install the other set. That will get the main track through Bergün. Then it’s time to work on the garden cosmetics. Flagstones, rough in an additional flower bed, add more ornamental gravel … and … and … and

The view from above after the approach track from Seedorf has been adjusted for grade and superelevation.

The min rad in that seemingly tight curve is 1500mm. The bare expanse inside the curve is real estate gained i.e. less lawn to cut and much easier lines. Not to mention … more room for structures.  The flagstone still needs to be set - just trying the placing to show SWMBO when she gets back from Van. It will be another super busy week with no rain in the forecast until Saturday.

Looking good H-J!!!
