I’d say it’s officially over here too, in Pa. Mid to upper 60’s most of the time, my kind of weather. Haven’t done much putztin on the RR lately, too many honey-do’s to take care of. I am waiting for the arrival of some track to start on the indoor portion of the layout.
Ken,
You said - “I am waiting for the arrival of some track to start on the indoor portion of the layout.”
What’s your plans?
Well, the plan is to run a spur toward the garage window on the outside and have a mining/logging interchange with another lead going into the garage for a 3-4 track fiddle/storage yard. This inside yard will be L shaped with one leg of it running along the back of the garage wall and the other leg under the On30 layout along the outside wall. The window is in the middle of the “El” so a switchback will be used to get to the outside garage wall portion of the yard.
I’ve built a 3-way stub switch to route the track after it comes in through the window. The inside portion will be code 250 aluminum which is on order from C&OC.
Nothing elaborate, just a place to store the trains when they aren’t in use.
I like “Switchbacks”.
Lets see teh stub switch!!! I can;t say enough about having even just the locomtives on hands free storage…perhaps as things develop a small cover might appear over my staging yard as well…But the staging yard first!
This here’s the one on the outside layout.
This is the one for the inside portion…rather crude, but functional.
This is the area it will occupy. (Sorry fo rthe picture quality, it’s rather dark out there and the flash doesn’t work.)
Geeeze!!! Ken don;t ya know its too early to be out there prowling round taking pictures??? Ilikt eht three way…whats the details on its construction?
Bart Salmons said:Not much details to it. I just kinda winged it to have it fit in the space it needs to occupy. I drew out the basic outline of how I needed the tracks to go and just started tacking down the rail. It's aluminum code 250 mounted on a 1/2" piece of plywood. The moveable track has 4 rail joiners slid over them that are tacked down to the wooden drawbar linkages to keep the rail in gauge over the long throw it has to travel. The throwbar or switch mechinism is a heavy piece of wire that's been bent and hooks over 3 nails at the proper positioning points. .

Ken ,
That’s what I like to see , a practical approach to a problem . Nice one .

I had to bring in the buildings off the Eastrock rr after a very strong gust blew the loading crane off the rr into the bush next door. The crane survived intact but the woodland senics figure hit the driveway and broke in about 10 pieces. I been working on detailing the buildings and getting them ready for lighting. I am hopeing to have a holiday open house next month and with the days getting shorter a lit rr in esential. Looks like good weather this saturday in New Haven I hope to get some more work done on the RR and maybe do a little running.
