Suitable Thomas rolling stock

Cale,
the LGB #2060 is a fairly common loco on eBay. If you email me your details, I could post you a spare face that I have (similar to shown in photo). I used clear silicone sealant (neutral cure) to attach. If at some point I need to remove the body then the face will pry off relatively easily. The face just needs slightly modifying to fit over the body mount screws seen in the photo.

All looking goo! Congrats!

You might like to PM Vic Smith - who is trying to achieve the same effect. Our Brian Donovan here has recommended him to look at IP Engineering stuff, a reco that I support, as they are even cheaper than the Bachmann Thomas trucks, with the proviso that they are VERY NG-looking items.

Tim, it does look like the salt wagons used in Britain. They had a solid cover instead of the usual tarpaulin over the sheet rail.

Hey Tim I’m thinking Scientific Toys freight cars could also be a great low cost source for cars that could be converted to Britty profile, I’m trying with a boxcar right now, need to get some thumbtacks for buffers though. The IP stuff looks great, need to see what the shipping to here would be.

Vic,
I decided to stick with the Bachmann trucks, as a common theme in British railways, is the 9 foot/10 foot generic underframe, combined with the nice spoked wheels. The I.P. stock has been criticised in the past for its usage of mild steel for axles/wheels, etc., leading to rust issues in service.

The basic truck can be modified to several variations and will suffice me until B'mann release a boxcar (closed wagon), cattle car and a brake van.

I think Tim should take his Genesis and make it Diesel 10! He was my favorite!

The ONE item NO ONE (not even the Thomas show depicts any) have offered is a decent Brake Van! I plan to kitbash something, still working on ideas....
I know Bachmann offered an LNER 20 tonne type in OO/H0, so maybe there is some hope?

I have two bashes in mind, I’ll try this one first on an LGB chassis:

and later maybe this one on a B’mann bobber caboose chassis:

for what it’s worth?

I priced 20 pairs of vacuum brake hoses to fit to these cars from I.P. Engineering. Came to $150.00 Aud/80 pound sterling (these are kids toys, are they not, so passed on this!).

Tim seams to me those Bmann Gons are big enough that if you extended the ends up and add a roof you could make a pretty effective cattle van like this:

I like that IP stuff also, but at my budget I dont think I can afford much, if any.

Say whqt?

I just checked on the IP site for brake hoses - they are £3.49 a pair - that’s $6.00Aus x 20 = Aus$120.000…plus Aus$30 for shipping?

Hmmmmmmmm.

Lemme have a look elsewhere…

Terry,
I went through the shopping process (checkout) to the point of actually paying, when I recevied a total of 80 pound sterling, including postage (20 pound sterling). The VAT had been removed. Current ‘buying’ exchange rate is around 55p per Australian dollar. More a nice to have item, but not worth $7.00 per car.
