Ric,

That’s quite true, but the litmus test: is it believable?

Oh HJ, I don’t know how we can interject believability into the equation. What does that have to do with anything? You know the old “My trains, my rules” analogy. Hard to imagine we could or would debate believability when we are talking about toy trains that many time just run in circles. If we aren’t modeling an amusement park, the litmus test is thrown out the window. In the past, I have been berated many times for calling the circular operations more closely related to “slot cars” or NASCAR (go fast and make a left turn), when it should have been declared as “orbitting”. Go figure?

At least if we are modeling a museum, the trains just sitting on a shelf look much like the trains just rotting away under a shed or out in the noon day sun.

YES it is ! A month or so ago when my group went and rode the http://www.indianarailwaymuseum.org/index.htm Which also has the Dubois County Railroad inc , as a money making , real freight hauling , part of the museum . I thought of Rics railroad To me , Rics operation is real , of course having been to Rics , and living in this area , knowing the history and rr background also , and having been to most of the places he mentioned , makes it beliveable , and most of all fun and intersting to all who operate trains at the KVRwy . And Ric your comment in a post , In the past, I have been berated many times for calling the circular operations more closely related to “slot cars” or NASCAR (go fast and make a left turn), when it should have been declared as “orbitting”. Go figure? Didn’t I see you at the IRM this summer , actually going in a circle in a train , and enjoying it ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I16oafQMKi8

I know We certainly enjoyed the trip ! It is for for the enjoyment and fun , or why do it !

Vic, your critter looks great! I really like the weathering. What kind of paints do you use?

Its a mix, mostly Floquil enamels, some Tamaya & Pollyscale acrylics, and some Testors enamels. As a rule I prefer the oil based paints far more than the water based stuff, but I like the water stuff for wash effects as its much thinner. I am a brush guy almost to a fault. I only use sprays to cover large models with a base coat that I want in a color onther than black. I have an airbrush but I dont have the patience for the clean up needed between each color application so i’ll use it only for dust or rust applications.

For this one, its Floquil Engine Black over the the cab and chassis, the engine got a “wash” of thinned Floquil Weathered Black, then the cab and chassis recieved a grime application of the unthinned Weathered Black, the cab interior is Testors Zinc Oxide. I then used Testors Rust and Pollyscale Rust applied over the grime areas and over various parts of the engine, its really a paint by eyeball thing.

Yea, right! You’ll be tempting us with another critter within a month…  :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, ain’t that certain. Sheesh with all those critters I wonder if he built some bunny hutches to keep them apart.

I told that old devil man not to push

Got two block of basswood in my “Bag’o’wood” grabbag from Micheal’s craftstores, they just happen to be the same size and just happen to lay out like this, sheesh! This is why you should never let your children play with blocks as kids…

A set of pantographs and I see a darn fine motor taking shape…

Oh, Vic,…:stuck_out_tongue:

Dennis,
You said - “Didn’t I see you at the IRM this summer , actually going in a circle in a train , and enjoying it ?”

Absolutely, in fact I have watched trains go in circles many times or a point to point railroad going back and forth. Hope to do it again

But that streetcar and the interurbans were running with purpose as they moved people and equipment up and down the line.

Doesn’t the UP have a test track out in Nebraska that just runs new or experimental equipment in a big circle? Maybe somebody should be modeling that.

There’s the big oval test track in Pueblo Colorado. They run some really neat stuff in circles there.

That’s were it is, I knew it was west of Cowtown (KC).

That Devilman sure pushes hard !

Push, Push!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Looking good.

Yes Dennis, but they went in a circle with a defined purpose. That was the route.
