I’ve been working on the next two cars which I hope will see paint in another week or so. They are both CN, including the early version. While working on the 1970 version, the car shops discovered a bad axle, so it’s been swapped out and is ready to go. Like your idea of the appearance of a bad wheel/axle being swapped out. I tend to model more modern era so the only difference would be painted the bearing cap blue.

Eric, I’m hoping with some use, the treads will polish up nicely like the real ones. My focus era is roughly 1990-2010, though build dates can go much earlier. Reflective stripes - yes. Graffiti - no. CN “www” logo - no.
I think the blue caps are just a companies marketing move to make them stand out.
Watch out for Rooster. I think he still makes you write lines on the blackboard.

A The blue bearing caps you saw were most likely manufactured by Amsted Rail’s Brenco Inc. A marketing representative for Amsted says the company “...wanted to distinguish the new Brenco Generation 2000 Class K bearing as it was originally placed in field service testing in the mid 1990s. Blue was chosen since it has always been an integral part of the Brenco logo color. John, yes, and I got smart on this one. I made a stencil for the whole panel instead of placing multiple stencils. I’ve been using Avery Sticker Project Paper 03383. I find it works pretty good for fonts down to 18pt… Anything smaller, and it starts pulling things apart as it cuts. I experimented with electrical tape for 16pt. fonts for the end numbers on the Procor gondola. It worked well, but the black was extremely hard on my eyes. I’m going to pick up some coloured tape to make things easier. I think I may be able to do some of the load ratings this way. I’ll let you know once I get the coloured electrical tape.

I use a Silhouette Cameo (cutter). I think a few others are using them. I freely share my files. Maybe if there is enough interest, we could have a section where everyone shares their files.

I never even thought of using a crafting printer for something like this. Hmmmmm gonna have to look into investing in one.

Rain has kept me indoors the last few days, so I completed two more rotary gons. I still have two more under construction.
I don’t know what Microsoft has done, but my Silhouette Cameo software is BO. I have reinstalled the last three versions, and none of them will open. I ended up installing the original software that came with the machine, and managed to cut the CN logos. Unfortunately it’s making it very hard to modify files, so the rest of the markings are going to take some time. I now have three cars with the large logo.
