you don’t need a chance against nobody.

you had a chance for your railroad - and you used it!

and now you are lost once and for all!

no bought car will give you ever again the same satisfaction, as a homespun!

on the southern & gulf run a lot of shabby cars - but they are MINE!

I really do not know what to think of your remarks or how to take them. There are many excellent modelers on this forum and this IS a competition, so yes, we are competing against each other. My modeling skills do not compare to many in this contest, but I do not consider my entry to be at all shabby, as you may think. I will very likely not be a winner in this challenge, but I would not say “now you are lost once and for all!” as you insinuate. I may very well win in a challenge build some day. I really can not figure out where you are coming from.

:frowning:

well, as some others of the members already mentioned, my post was meant positive.

but let’s pluck it apart:

  1. we are a friendly community here. in my eyes these competitions are not held in the first place to find a winner or hero, but to get ourselves out of the armchairs and do something. so the only adversary, we really are up against, is our own lazyness.

  2. you have won! just because you got a car on your layout, nobody else has.

and that - in my eyes is worth much more, than being first or second in this competition.

and, no, i don’t think, your car could be first place. although it is very well made, there is one thing, that is disturbing. the material, you are using is too big. the boards and stakes are out of scale.

and? - where is the problem?

btw my own builds are much less tidy than your car is.

  1. and yes, i still think, that you are lost forever now! in the sense, as i wrote, that you now will find less contentment in buying stuff, but will be tempted continously to build your own stuff. welcome to the dark side. welcome to real modeling.

you will end up like victor and mik. (they get a cold turkey, if they do not build at least one kitbash or scratchbuild per week - and they know, how remarks like this one are meant!)

but i will spare you in the future, and abstain from commenting in your threads.

ps: just an afterthought(afterkick), because my mood went down over this:

as quick, as you are, to tell others, when their pics don’t show, you might try, to do it better.

Joe,

I get the impression from your comment about not having a chance against the other modelers here that you are putting yourself down. I have been building models of one sort or another for over 50 years and if this is the first scratchbuilt that you have ever done, then for the record I think you did a very good job. As others have said, the whole point of the challenge is to get everyone off the couch or away from the TV to do something railroad related. The only person to win against here is yourself. Use what you have learned to improve yourself.

Winning or losing isn’t important, it’s how you play the game. Be proud of what you have accomplished, and don’t ever be afraid to try something new.

Ron

I am with Korm, the Challenge really got me doing a lot more scatch building both cars and buildings. I may not even get my build done for two weeks but that’s fine.

I do have a question. Is anyone finding trucks for a decent price? I keep stripping the off my other ars!

Doug… I’m working on that… I Cast my own side frames. I just received the stuff to upgrade them to better metal, and better resin (commercial stuff not hobby stuff) if it goes well I think that I would make the raw casting available to friends. Give me a little time after the build challenge…

Korm,

I am convinced by what the others have said and what you have subsequently written that I must have taken what you initially wrote the wrong way. I apologize for MY misunderstanding. I now understand how you meant the phrase “and now you are lost once and for all!” I did not understand it a couple of days ago. I do want you to continue to post in any of my threads, I enjoy reading your comments. Don’t be silly, I still desire to be your friend, after all we are all fellow ferroequineologists! As far as letting a poster know his pictures didn’t show, I will continue to let them know, because they may not be aware the outside world can’t see it even if they can. It is a service to them.

@Doug - The cheapest I know how to put a pair of trucks together is to purchase the truck frame from Robby at RLD, his pricing on the USA Trains frames is fantastic. Unless Robby can meet it, Star Hobbies has the best pricing on a case (6 cards) of the Bachmann steel wheels.

Joe,

your answer was short and to the point.

and i will not be silly over a missunderstanding.

Thanks Korm.

Nice build Joe!
