Crusher dust/fines have a magical ability to disappear over the winter, and I have no idea where it goes. I’ve resorted to using bagged concrete aggregate from the big-box stores. A bit large, but has sharp edges and works pretty well.

I found some small granite fines @ a local quarry … they called it rice stone… Check with the local landscape yards and go look @ the stone…

If no local quarry/crusher, try roofing supply places. Tell them you want #5.
Oh…, be forwarned…
Granite crusher fines are magnetic and will stick to any magnets mounted under your engines, or even the motor blocks themselves. This can be a PITA as sometimes you can get enough build-up to cause derailment!

That will happen with most everything. The fines I use end up jammed in the flange-ways of my sidewalk crossing and in the guard rails and points of switches. You just need to be diligent about checking trouble spots before running the train.
