But you have a social life it’s the same one we all have …Trains!
I know, I know, I know…
But after you mentioned I went back to all my Southern diesel books and they were definitely there! Almost all of their EMD cab units had those smaller sized mirrors… and if the prototype had it, well then I guess mine should too!
Although now I’m calling it finished! Just some posed shots out in the garden should finish things off nicely
I’m sorry for creating extra work …they look good though
Did you weather the mirrors? Hanging out there in the breeze like they do, they’re going to get extra dirty. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)
David, not at all, no apology necessary, please! I should be thanking you instead! It’s what I love most about this hobby, when we all share our ideas and suggestions, everyone benefits.
Steve, they are weathered, trust me The back faces have quite a bit of light rust to simulate the paint peeling off, done as I do most of my weathering, with Bragdon Weathering System powders. It really doesn’t come across well in the photos, indoors on a dark and gloomy Scottish afternoon!
Just to finally finish this thread off, here are a couple of photos of the F3A out on our line in revenue service!
Many thanks for all of the kind comments and suggestions, they are all very much appreciated!
Best wishes,
G

Rooster, dirt is the badge of hard work. Thats there is a hard working machine. Or, its been abandon at the end of that spur.
Thanks, I take that as a compliment! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Jokes aside, it is quite a major part of the look I was going for! We’re modelling the late 60’s, around '67 or '68, so these covered wagons only had about 4 years left before the Southern traded them back in to EMD for newer 2nd generation power.

It’s a great Southern photo archive and is the source where I reference most of our locos to compliment what I can’t find in books and magazines. Some of the units shown really are FILTHY!!!
