I’d never heard of a black phoebe, so when I saw this black Prius in our town, with a license plate reading “BLKPHBE” or something like that, I wondered what it meant. Then, in the park across the street from where the car lives, I saw this black and white bird, which I looked up in my bird book. Mystery solved.
BTW, we have a fair amount of black phoebes in our town and a couple in our back yard. Lots of Priuses too (but not in our backyard). It’s that kinda town.
