Large Scale Central

So it begins, new Garden Railroad 2013

sorry the trestle idea didn’t work out, but I’ve always thought that most of the fun is the building stage. Probably why mine is never done.

I wish I had your ability to get out there in the morning before work. Not that I couldn’t get out there, just that 7:30 would come and go and I’d still be working on the RR instead of heading to work :]

I have had many setbacks as well. Like Jon said , its all part of the fun.

Im glad Im not the only who works late shifts. But it is nioce having all that time to work on trains during the day.

Setbacks heck…I’ve switched scales three times and am on the 3.5 v build of the 1:20.3 layout all in 17 or so years…Railroading is FUN! It really is!!!

Day 5 of the build-re-build! 6/9/13

Well today was a loooooooong day!

We arrived home at 3am from our Saturday night job of providing sound reinforcement (PA rentals) and we (well I…) was up and ready to go at 8am!

The princess needed coffee before ANYTHING was going to happen.

So while she was getting caffeinated I went ahead and took apart everything that was wrong from the other day.

And started out with our new direction.

Princess was ready to dig in!

We are still going with the trestle idea, just not a over under loop.

Something a little more basic and will also fit in the area that I have a little nicer.

We also had some help from my girlfriends son today, he was the smart one and brought a tent to sit under so we could have some shade…seeing how we cut down EVERY tree in our yard there is never a shady spot unless you make one!

The area where the tent was setup will actually be a 8’ x 12’ patio/deck which is being built tomorrow by another friend of mine.

And the tamping tool seen some action today!

We actually completed…well sort of…the main outer loop.

It still needs some tweaking and adjusting…and a little help here and there but, it was good enough to test some trains!

My PA burned up when lightning took out my shed :frowning:

Four 1800w amps lost in the fire. Along with a 12 channel mixer, computer system, various rack gear, four tops and four subs.

Still have two 1800w amps and a 24 channel mixer that were in the house. I built a new computer, but still need to replace the cabs. I’ll probably downsize to two tops and two subs, since I only have two amps left.

Don’t get discouraged on the GRR. I’ve changed mine so many times I’ve lost count.

I’m sure I’m not done making changes yet

Here is a overhead view of what we did today.

So today was another 10hr haul, with three people working in the 80+ degree weather!

We got a lot accomplished and I am happy that the trains didn’t derail going over the trestle section.

It was a bit of a pain getting everything level, but in the end it came out well for my first…errr…second attempt!.

I am going to fill in the spacing with extra trestles that I have (in time) but I first am going to let the trestle section settle in and see what happens.

We had to dig and move a lot of dirt and we removed another healthy serving of tree roots too!.

When it all settles I will have to come up with a way to secure the trestles to the block, I am thinking some type of weatherproof adhesive (goop) might do the trick.

That’s all for now, hopefully the rain will hold off tomorrow night and when I get home from my real day job (selling electrical supplies) I can get a video posted of a train running my layout.

That’s too bad about your gear Ralph, knock on wood I have never had anything happen to any of my gear in over 35 years of playing bass and being a sound provider for the last 6-7 years.

I can’t get discouraged with my layout, this was 5-years in the making from when I had to dismantle my old one and move on with my life!

So all of this has been a lot of fun!

Try it again!

By golly Vincent, I think you got it mate!

Had trouble logging into my YouTube account, now I think I have two of them!

Anyway, just playing with my Iphone video tonight while it wasn’t raining!!!

So if this works, here is a video of the entire loop of track.

I can’t seem to edit my own posts :frowning:

So the video posted is the entire outer loop, guessing somewhere around 180 maybe 200’ total.

I took the video from my back deck with my Iphone, didn’t do to bad!

The engine is the Bachmann 2-8-0 spectrum pulling (4) Accucraft 1:20 box cars.

I was surprised the sound system was still working as the engine had been boxed up for the last 5+ years and it was never used!

We should have a great weekend here weather wise, so we are hopeful that we can install the reversing track.

Then play with more trains!

Nice

The fish seem to be enjoying themselves.

Where’s the caboose

Ralph

Good job Vinny. Looks like you’ve done a terrific job there, Congrats.

The fish are just wishing that was a feed train! Those things just eat everything!
