Watching some of this on BookFace too; looking real good. That house next door has really gone downhill in the last year. The yard didn’t look too bad when you put in the new fence, but recent shots - hoo boy! Wondering why it was abandon; doesn’t look that bad on the outside. Foreclosure?

We are lucky / un-lucky to live just a few blocks away from the bay, which is very nice and scenic… But along with that comes very large birds that think our Koi fish are here for them to dine on at there convenience!
We constantly have blue herons that fly over head and stop by our neighbors house that refuses to put netting over his pond and they wipe him out almost every season. These birds are monsterous with about a 6’ wing span and legs around 24", they just walk right in the pond and select what they want to eat!
We also live a 1/4 mile from the main airport in our state which seems to have increased the amount of Hawks that have taken up residence.
So between those two birds we keep the nets over the pond for the safety of our fish, some I have had for almost 15-years now.
I made them so they can be removed easily which we do take them off when we are having people over so they can enjoy the railway and koi pond.

That house is turning into a real eye sore and a growing PIA to us! The people that lived there for 30-years… Let’s just say they did some poor financial planning and walked away from the house last year and took off to Florida. During the time it took to track them down and come to some type of settlement there was a maintenance company hired by the law firm keeping the property looking semi ok… Now it has moved into the next phase where I am guessing the bank has the house, all maintenance activities have stopped and the place is just a mess. The grass is about 48" tall, the vines have grown all over & inside the house. The roof is collapsing on the garage and we are constantly chasing people out of the yard that think they can treasure hunt at will… Don’t know what is going to happen with it, it is still not listed for sale. I am hoping it ends up being condemned by the city and torn down.
Thanks for the explanation Vincent. That’s really a problem for you. We have a small pond that attracts Coyotes, mostly to drink, but they don’t bother much. Your solution looks like it works for you. I hope hope your next door abandoned house problem gets resolved for you soon. Terrible!
The shame is that abandon structures attract all kinds of vermin, winged, 4 legged and 2legged. And they have a nasty tendency to “mysteriously” burn down. So I too wish you luck in a quick resolution to the problem.
Well we certainly wont get many more fantastic train running weekends like we just had this season, so here are a few more pics from our run on Sunday… even a picture of some of our water pets!
You have a great railroad Vinny. Hope the weather doesn’t go bad on you any time soon; a nice Indian summer would be good. I’m curious for no particular reason about something though…I’m sure the rubber duckie will be fine, but what happens to those big Koi gold fish when the water freezes?

The fish are fine all winter long. Once it stays constantly 50degrees or less we stop feeding them, then 2-weeks after that we shut the filter system down. The only thing left running is the aerator, this usually happens right around Thanksgiving. The fish go dormant, basically hibernate all winter. They all huddle together in the deepest part of the pond (about 30" deep) and stay that way until the spring. They really don’t eat anything until sometime in April. Even though the surface of the pond may freeze over the aerators supply them oxygen beneath the surface so they are fine. Even in our coldest of winters when we had a few weeks strung together of single digit temperatures the thickest the ice ever got was around 12-14". It’s pretty amazing how nature works! Some of the fish pictured I have had going on 15-years now.

Ihave been following on FB as well. Everything looks great especially since you wee not home much this summer.
Its a shame to see the abandon houses. Its a big problem over by me. People buy the house, cant afford it so the banks let them buy another house in another state. Then they walk away from the first house. The process for for-closures and banks is long. Sometimes 3-5 years. The house next to me and the one net to that are both unoccupied. Only good thing is we live in a rural area so it just looks like a hay field.
Managed to get a mid spring run in with plenty of color this past weekend!
The fish aren’t to scale but I sure like that cable car! Does it run pretty well with no problems? I’d like to get one of those.

We call the fish Whales so they sort of fit to scale! The cable car & the street car pictured both run great, picked them up at this years ECLSTS.

I see them as Painted Japanese Whales …
I’d like to see if that Accucraft cable car could go up a slight grade. Even more than your average 2% grade.
I don’t see why it would have any issues, it is very low geared and should have no problem with a 2-3% grade.
The slow speed it operates at is really nice and realistic.
So I am guessing within a few days all of the images posted throughout this build log will be gone.
My Photo bucket membership expires 8/17 and I am not renewing it.

Looking great! I like you ECLSTS acquisitions too, missed seeing you there this year. Your layout’s vegetation has really taken root and is lookking nice.
