Progress is looking good…
Got some painting done.

I started with primer grey but I didn’t like the look of it. I thought once it had gravel in the bottom it would be too grey so brown it is. the track is actually camo brown but it’s hard to tell in the light.
I started work on the deck. I found the screen door rollers work a lot better than my idea.

…winking…
Wow, progress has been slow! I took a lot of pictures but lost them somewhere along the way. Anyhow, here’s a pic of the bridge with track laid. I used screws to tack the track down plus they hold a lot stronger and don’t work loose. I’m spiking the rest down. The support cables are just stripped solid wire, I’ll probly use blackin’ it to darken them.

Here’s a close up of the screws. Once the decking goes on they’ll be hidden.

Terry I have started using screws in critical areas of handlaid turnouts and trackwork. they are eaiser to adjust and wont back out like spikes have a tendancy to do. Good call…
Bart, I have found the same thing. A friend made a beautiful bridge for me so to keep the look I handlaid rails and spiked them down. The railroad has been in place for almost 10 years and the bridge was put down two years ago. needless to say the bridge foundation sank about 1/2" and the spikes were pulled out. So, I put screws in the ends to hold it in place. This year it only sank about 1/4" but the bridge was being held in midair by the track and screws. It actually supported the loco.
I’m using #0 3/8" screws for my stuff and they seem to work very well. The only thing I’m gonna do different is next time I order I’m gonna get black ones.
Terry, Turntable looks great…
Ta Daaaaa!

Terry… Can you show how you did the rollers. Are they screen door rollers?
Is there any adjustment on the rollers?
I got a 4 and 1/2 foot turntable out back that the brass rollers finely pooped out.
I’m using a sealed Lazy Susan for the center and using Code 100 Ho track with rollers for the pit.
I need to changed it to something else like you did.(http://freightsheds.largescalecentral.com/users/noelw/Smilies/2eatingpopcorn.gif)
Anyway very nice work and looks great.
Very well done!!!
real nice
Richard
Is it done yet?..
Now that’s very sharp! Ta-daaa indeed. I gotta have me a couple of those. I especially like the grease stain down the middle.
Noel, they are indeed screen door rollers. I was going to use G scale wheels but the screen door roller has a flange on each side forcing it to stay on the track. I removed the flat(ish) spring steel piece from the wheel and installed a 2-56 screw. I then used a 1/4" flat stock piece of brass to mount it too. I threaded the brass so it can be adjusted then added a jam nut to keep it tight.
My phone doesn’t do real good close ups but you can see the screw mounted in the wheel here-

And here is the brass assembly holding it all-

You can also see the copper wire that is the cable and how I hold it in place. I still have to stain the bottom. Hope that answers your question.
Terry
Nice job Terry.
Those door rollers should hold up much better than a “scale” wheel set in the outdoor environment.
Now you need a couple of push handles on the ends of that “Armstrong” table.
The hole is dug. I dug it deeper then needed and added gravel underneath for drainage.

The base in place.

I ran out of time and good weather to get any farther. More to come
Terry
I ran into a small problem. When I made the turntable I went by my ‘standard’ set of clearance measurements. I forgot that they were for my connie which was the largest loco on the roster at the time. Low and behold the K-27 is a tad bigger and didn’t fit. So I had to do a little reworking.
at any rate it’s done!

The mighty K fits! I had to move the upright supports to the outside and redo the cables. I think it still looks good though.

I still need to ballast the inside and fix the landscaping around it but I want to make sure it all works first.
Terry
Good Job, I like it…
