Large Scale Central

Snow Dozer Build

The count down to finish or at least get more done on this project has begun. 19 days until the RPM meet… I was planning on spending the last month or so on this project, but instead I’ve been playing auto mechanic. Had a bad intake valve on my wife’s car. Guess who got to tear the car apart to get the head off? I’m hoping to get that car project finished tomorrow so that I can start playing trains again. Dang I just casually mention the RPM meet and now it sounds like a big deal… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Steve,

Have you been to Dave’s layout for an ops night ever?

This will be my 4th or 5th time. I’m almost an old hand. Looking forward to finally meeting you.

If I want to make it to Dave’s on Friday, I’m looking at having to take part of the day off… Not sure yet on that part, but I know I will be in Monroe.

Crap,

is that only 19 more days? I need to get the side rods on the 2-6-0 done by then. Arrggg.

Thanks for the reminder.

You still need to build the layout!(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Normally, this comment is reserved for Rooster but. . . . Shut Up Sean. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)I was going to work on the layout this weeked but now it looks as if I will be stuck in the basement on Friday and Saturday getting side rods built. It needs to run so I can take it to Dave’s and be pretty so I can show it off at the RPM meet.

This is a stressful hobby(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

If we don’t see you Friday at Dave’s, we’ll see you Saturday in Monroe.

It’s not that I don’t want to take Friday off, I’m just not sure I want to make sub plans and have to deal with all the mess from that on Monday… After working for the railroad for 8 years “being sick” is just about the only way to get time off!

You planning on bringing any models?

Devon, any progress yet? Time is a tickin’.

With all the talk of this meet you guys are going to I want to see some pictures from it. What I really want to see is the progress pictures of this snow dozer . The craftsmanship I saw of the frame at the beginning here was amazing.

I want to post some pictures too, but nothing much to look at right now. I’m currently waiting on the SWMBO to get back from the doctors so that I can finish the one last bolt on the car project… Once that is done, I can clean the garage mess from the car project and get back to modeling. Hopefully by Friday evening I will have some progress made.

Steve,

If you bring a model you get a discount on the admission price. It could be anything that you’ve done. Something as simple as weathering a factory built car counts. The whole purpose of the RPM meets is to show what you’ve done. It’s NOT a competition or “NMRA judging contest”.

I just got in my 3D printed parts from Burl’s store on shapeways. I only ordered the air brake parts for casting purposes.I’m blown away at the detail on these parts! Sure motivates me to try and finish the designs of the 3D parts that I wanted to make.

I’m hoping to mix the mold’s tonight and get them setting up. I’m also hoping to get the body finished framed tonight, and start filling in some of the mistakes…

I’m making a little more progress and hope to have the cab framing done by Friday. I’m currently stuck on building the front window area of the cab. The tricky part is getting the angles all right. Spent tonight tearing apart everything I did this weekend, and recutting the parts again. The cab angles down from the roof, and intersects with two other angles.

Nice thing about the RPM meet is it sounds like works in progress are just as welcome as completed projects. So my incomplete CR&N #3 will be there. After all you get in at a discounted rate (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

So I know it’s been a really long time since I posted anything on this build. But with the start of school again, I’ve found made time to start modeling again. What is about the saying, if you want something done give it to someone that is busy?

It’s actually starting to look like something now…

Looks great so far!

Not much progress, but progress never the less… These little babies are the heart of the dozer. Or at least the front wings. I’m thinking about modeling one wing stowed, and one wing extended. I’m going to place an order for some wire rope (5/8" scale so either 0.018" or 0.024") and some pulleys from PSME

very nice
