Signals on the NVRY

Quick followup, the 4 inputs from the board report back to JRMI, too. So the manufacturing design of the node is correct. I have to tweak a few pad placements, and make the board a tad smaller, but time to start building them out!

Sounds good…I think. What’s the end plan?

I’m supposed to have a plan? Where’s my napkins?

I guess the end game is a bunch of working signals for you guys to ignore at TrainOps.

We can do that…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Guys;

Although I really appreciate a working signal system, and the work involved in building one for a true OPERATING model railroad; I have learned over a few years…that there is a fine line between an OPERATING railroad that attracts operators, with FUN, and one that tries to be too prototypical…PLEASE be aware of that line…

I wish I could be at Ken’s, and at Bob’s; to enjoy OPERATING with all of you great people, on the fine railroads available.

But; I can’t. So I look forward to pictures and reports of great days ahead.

Fred Mills

I have operating signals on the T&LBRR but you can hardly see the LEDs during the day, and only if you really look.

On the IPP&W we built the signals so that they WOULD BE SEEN, because they were needed to serve a SIMPLE purpose. So, they had to be built in less than “True Scale”, unfortunately. They are simple indications of whether the train has clearance to proceed, or not, from a distinctive control point. It was more important to see the signal, than it was for the signal to be in true scale, so that the operation could be successful, in the course of having fun.

Fred Mills

This is how I did them. We have several pillar and pole mounts, and even one that hangs from a bridge.

Or I can run signals on my railroad.

There’s also a lot of work involved with a dispatcher. And some people ignore that as well.

As long as you’re having fun, does it really matter?

Funny how certain pics keep popping up … (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

That’s NOT a brick!!! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)(Try building a brick house from “bricks” that size… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif))

(Edit: A standard brick is 3 5/8" x 2 1/4" x 8" and weighs 4.5 pounds) I don’t think Jon could have run through THAT!

I didn’t’ run through anything. I was the conductor. I believe the engineer blamed it on that low-tech R/C in the gondola (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
