An awful LOT of fleabay sellers put a low bid price and high shipping price because:
- If you put a starting bid anywhere near a reasonable fair market value all you get is rude messages and no bids…
- Ebay’s shipping calculator is about 20% low and expects the seller to shell out for the insurance…
- They hope folks are too hooked in by the “low” price to notice the shipping…
- It helps cover all those bloody fees…
Do I agree with this? No, not really, and I’d refund the difference if it cost less than what they paid. But I understand it. All too often, between the fees and the screwed up postage calculator I’ve actually lost money on sales. You can’t stay in business long doing that… and entirely too many people still gripe, gripe, gripe when you just invoice them the actual postage price anyway.
