Shipping charges on Ebay

Don’t fret Andy. You, Jan, and Jane can still go on your shopping extravaganza. There’s a UPS and Fed Ex right up the street from the show.

One other thing I’ve noticed. Guys who will buck over $20 shipping charges will pay $75 in gas. $100 for a motel room, and $20 to get into a show to buy the very same car - often at the same sale price - and then think they “saved money”.

It’s a funny world, but whatever gets you through the night.

I may well do that, My choice.

Some whine day in and out that they’re broke, but constantly buy new bits that they don’t need and tell everyone else how poor they are. Yep, a funny world, go figure

My sentiments exactly…

What Ken & Hollywood said. I agree.

Some folks just don’t know what “poor” actually is…(when it is yourself it may be “without cable TV”, but when it’s somebody else folks may insist you aren’t “poor” until you are “completely destitute” - having a used refrigerator might disqualify you!) – Others are “broke” because they manage to spend more than they make, even if they have a 7 figure salary!..

Personally, just personally, mind you. I’m “broke” because disability barely covers the basic rent, utilities, food, fuel, and medication many, if not most months. What stuff I HAVE is what I accumulated back when I wasn’t nearly as “poor” (back when I was physically able to work full time) So I have to save up quite a while, or sell off something else for the times I get to buy those “bits I don’t need”… and I’m running out of stuff other folks will actually PAY more than 30c on the dollar for (as compared to what they were going for before the economy tanked NOT my wishful thinking)… And sadly I’ve found that, for whatever reason, there are actually more “well off” folks in this world folks who actually begrudge me, and folks like me, EVERYTHING - even though the building my little (and larger) mangles is a large part of my “self-motivation therapy” to keep me from giving in to Depression.

But back to the topic; What has all that to do with ebay shipping charges? As a (now) occasionally seller, I already cannot afford to “eat” the difference between what ebay’s shipping calculator says it “is” and what the POST OFFICE charges me. So I do get a little impatient with those who want the charges to be BELOW COST just because they want a “better deal”… A FAIR deal is when both parties are satisfied with it. Buyers (and many of you have only been on THAT side of the counter) tend to forget this. We’d ALL like to get everything we want for nearly nothing. The world just doesn’t work that way.

He could always leave it at his sons house. I will have my truck there with plenty of space in the bed. It will be safe here till he can get it home!!!

And, If I ever saw them again, noone would be able to recognize them…

Someone explain how this charge for shipping is a fair one.

It’s fair, IF you want expedited shipping priority one USPS…

I would not want it shipped that way, and I think the offer is, well, stupid.

BUT, is it fair? Yes, for what shipping is offered, it is a fair price.

Not smart, but fair.

Greg

That one seems a bit on the high side…I recently shipped a much heavier and much larger package a similar distance and was quoted $32.00 for Priority.

As I said earlier…$15.00 for a box car is very fair…This one, not so much.

I can explain it!

Buy it now for $50.

You pay “expedited” (six days is expedited?) shipping $38.50.

That’s $88.50.

Now then, if you’re the buyer who will pay $88.50 to have a crappy $14 car with plastic wheels and hook-and-loop couplers in your hands by next Thursday, it’s plenty fair.

Well, as my buddy who deal in muscle car parts likes to say, “There’s an a-- for every seat” Somebody will probably buy it sooner or later.

No doubt about that

Speaking of fair shipping prices, take a look at this. I’m not posting these grips just because I think they are out of line, but more to let all of us see how unscrupulous some sellers can be.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LGB-22842-0-4-4-0-steam-locomotive-with-sound-smoke-and-DCC-new-in-the-box-/300870227373?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item460d4355ad

$29.95.

Not bad to ship a loco that weights in at a lot more than a plastic car.

That loco would cost me about $34 to ship it to Spring, Texas fro PGH PA.

Size of box plus the shipping weight combined.

Welcome to the new economy.

You can go to UPS.com to estimate any size box and weight to ship anywhere you want.

Try out the estimator and you will soon see that shipping prices are nowhere near what some people thing they should be or what they used to be.

Hope this helps.

Dan as I said before no one is forcing anyone to pay it. If you do not like the shipping cost don’t buy it. Not all sellers are like this but all are being blaimed. Some do not take into concideration that if you are on the east cost and ship to the west a box car will cost about $15 parcel post with insurance and about $26 buy priority. Been there done that

Mark

You can get a hotel room for $100.00?

Sure can, and not a Pakistani run Econolodge, either (If you’ve ever stayed in Lancaster, you’ll understand). But pretty nice, clean, and comfortable “mid-priced” and “business class” places — Just use “Travelocity” or sometimes “Hotwire”… The rooms I’ve gotten in York were usually south of town - about 15 minutes from the fairgrounds

If you use Priceline’s “Name Your Own Price” thingy for Lancaster or York, you CAN even get a room for around $40 (plus taxes),… but it’s usually in Carlisle, Harrisburg, or halfway to Reading – mostly negating any savings at today’s fuel prices.

The ONLT times (that I’ve found so far) that these online places will utterly fail you is AARP weekend in Lancaster and the TCA weekend in York

My last posted link wasn’t so much about the shipping charge, which for that loco is a fair price for shipping. Rather it had more to do with the seller’s description of the piece.
