Large Scale Central

SD40Qrm Build

cant wait to see a roster shot of all the rebuilt proper locomotives !! keep posting pictures!!

Thanks Guys.

Andy, I think you may have ruffled some feathers.

Pete, I will. I’m trying to finish a few things before spring. I’ve been going over an article correcting mistakes, and adding more instructions where needed. The best way to do this is to build following the article’s instructions. ( in triplicate (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif))

The snow is starting to melt on my layout. I CAN SEE TRACK. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

Hell yeah that looks GREAT!

Thanks Chris.

I’ve been working a little bit of OT in the diesel shops. I think it’s time to do the wiring and then I can add the final details. Maybe it will be complete by the end of next week. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Shane

Too bad you didn’t build some working snow fighting equipment ( not the dinky plows on the engines)… (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I think they have them on the CN …

Oh like the ones I’m building… Or I think that I’m building at a snail’s pace…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

You mean the one you got halfway with and decided to blow it up and start over from ground up? Snow Dozer?

That’s a beautiful locomotive you got there Shane . These things take time . The two cars i’m building now are testament to that. It seems one thing leads to another to make it take longer than expected . I always liked the SD-40 type locomotives with the big “porches” on each end. I first took notice of them back in the 80’s when I was modeling the Union Pacific in HO scale . Back then they were teamed up alot with the DDA40X’s and most had the “snoot” short hood . They were used in high speed service. I still have the Union Pacific motive power roster from back then and this will make me dig it out again . Again , great job !

Sean, I have 2 to 3 feet in spots, so I don’t think G scale equipment would suffice. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Thanks Mike. Today I completed the electrical, which is probably my least favourite part. I also got the handrails done. Now I just need to finish the frame stripes and add the final details. I’ll definitely have it done by the end of next week. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

Shane

So close…

It will definitely be done by Friday. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

NICE!

Is that a light shining down on the front truck? Interesting.

Thanks Rooster.

Ken, yes, I equip all of my locomotives with ground lights.

Shane

Very nice.

I’m looking forward to the video of the lights and sound from this build … (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

I doesn’t have to be outside … (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Very cool Shane , a real masterpiece. Step lights would be a nice touch too .

Coming soon Sean. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)I had to lose one of the weights on this one so that I could place the speaker in the fuel tank. This made room for the battery in the tail of the locomotive. It puts out really nice sound.

Mike, my other units have step lights. This is an older unit with end ladders. I’ve poured over my photos, and have even checked other photo sites, and I can’t find anything showing ladder lights. One of these evenings, maybe I’ll head over to Scotford yard to confirm whether or not this is the case.

Shane

Time to start working on the final build video. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)

That is one nice looking engine Shane. A real masterpiece !

It looks strange with out the green tape … (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Thanks Mike.

Sean, it was handed down to the SD40-2w. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
