Safety Check for Old Batteries?

if i see that pic, and thinking about what i heard about this kind of batteries…
… i feel compelled to play devil’s advocate.

even being a “trash-modeler” and junk collector on a shoestring budget myself - i would never ever allow such a box of old “fire-starters” into my home.

even if it costs more, i would either use old fashioned alcaline batteries, or even brandnew rechargeable of a company, known for good quality.
(having worked as a fireinspector of an insurance and as fire-chief of the local volunteer firebrigade, i might be a bit too cautious, but… )

Jerry,

No. I know enough about these things to not touch them until I understand a bit more about them. I suppose testing wit a volt meter is of minimal risk.

Between @PeterT and @Korm , I am leaning towards finding the local HAZMAT collection site.

Closing out this thread…I passed the batteries and charger on to members of our rocketry club who claimed uses for them!

Thanks for all the advice!
