Rusty Cable..

Sean,

What I have not seen here is probably the best solution. go to Wal-Mart or Joann’s fabrics and buy some appropriate colored heavy duty thread and replace what you have. further color it with chalks and powders rubbed on. it is very difficult to take black thread and change its color.

Oh sure Al go and take all the fun out of it. I guess it you want easy and great results you could go this route. Its much more fun to try and figure out a harder way that yields lesser results.

Ya what Devon said! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Sometimes I have the notion to plug a pair of words in to Google to see if anyone named that comes up, yep, there is someone named Rusty Cable, a realtor in Texas.

There is also a rusty cable knit wool jumpsuit out there somewhere for sale. Eeeww, scratchy.

When I built the hoisting engine a few years back I went to Joann’s fabrics and got a very heavy woven thread in black. I ran out 30-40 feet of it and stretched it very tight and tied it off then rubbed it down with paraffin and let it set for a few days. This treatment did two things it made the thread very stiff so it would hold its position once rigged on the machine and gave it a slightly shiny finish like well used and slightly oily cable.

Used the same look when I rebuilt the crane, you can kind of see the look in this picture

I guess my point is that not all machinery has “rusty” cable some machines are used

Good point Rick.

I do like your idea !
