Rockwall Canyon Improvements 2015

Doing some nice work there Jeff. Seems like every one is really expanding trackage this spring. Those tables will really help with the Live steam. Do you R/C it, or just set and “forget” ? Really like the setting your railroad is in. Those trees look nice and shady. Too bad they drop all the junk, but I’d rather have that than bake in the sun.

Thanks Joe! It turned out to be a great day.

Thanks Randy. I currently have an Accucraft Mogul with no RC.

Once it gets going, the engine can pull a decent train all the way around, but the speed isn’t as consistent as I would have hoped. I’m going to do a bit more work to level out a few spots, but I think in the long run it probably makes sense to add RC. That will add more “ops” capability anyways. The tables are great for getting steamed up and for keeping the supplies clean and organized. As for the trees…they’re only an issue in the fall when the leaves and acorns come down heavily. The spring and summer bits seems to blow away and disappear before you know it. And yes, the shade is awesome! I really appreciate it now after getting a few burns this spring. Back when I was moving the rock around the leaves had not yet filled in.

Nice work! Thanks for sharing.

That has turned out nice. I like the added height (getting older here) and good idea on the shelves at the steam up/unpacking area (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Below we have a new switchback spur coming off the mainline.

Its rather difficult to see, but there is another turnout in place to the right of the “red-roofed” house which will create another switchback up the hillside. On all levels I will be adding additional sidings for future industries.

Below further improvements were made to the Boroxo industrial siding pertaining to the mainline access. RCRX 1055 is pulling uphill from Boroxo and will soon join the RCRR mainline on the north track.

Cool… Nice Layout… I know the red roof in all that green was just a test for us ““contrast blind”” folks… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

Suck up!

Looking nice Jeff. Like the new lines up the hill.

Love switchbacks!

Thanks guys!

I tried out the switchbacks with the GP7 and the S4 to see if the trackwork was okay. The GP7 smoothly took three cars up, over, and back down with no issues. The S4 ran fine pulling and pushing up the hill, but she surged terribly at low speed on the way down. Trackwork is about 4% grade…so you can only fit a few cars at a time anyways. Today’s heavy rain should turn the new stone the same blue as the mainline.

Nice work. How far up the hillside ar you going ?(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Hrmm the Tablet doesn’t work well with the quote feature…

Anyways the switchback branch will terminate about 20 ft from the new turnout. I plan to further populate the area with sidings and switching games, but as for railroad length its heading in the wrong direction. My mainline expansion will proceed in the opposite direction.

Below are two shots which show the current mainline of the RCRR. The double track mainline is actually a folded dogbone with a large loop on each end.

Future expansion of the RCRR will stem toward the right from ground level rail yard pictured above.
