Large Scale Central

Ringbalin Light Railway

GAP,

Not dissimilar to here, but, to my mind most of the loaded wagons here looked like giant “tribbles” towed behind little steam locomotives. These are comparatively neat! I have some other neat photos in the books of workers loaded in cane cars at the end of a shift an even a couple with fully armed troops on exercise.

I shall add XXXX Bitter to my hunting list…

Eric

The artificial turf bank has been completed.

I put down a wire netting frame for the turf to sit on.

The turf was laid over the top of the timber and stapled to it the bottom is just held in by the weight of the turf, I did not glue it down so that water can drain through.

I did a clearance trail with my widest loco (a Bachmann “Connie”) and wagon and the loco only just brushes the turf in the narrowest place so I am happy the clearance will not be a problem. If it does become an issue I will trim the turf with scissors.

That looks pretty sharp!

I will start on the other side of the bridge next just need some more XXXX and a bit of quiet contemplation.

The next bit is shaping up to be huge like “titanic huge” in production. (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Nice progress and it is looking real nice… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

The upper loop is now complete and operational, compliance tests were carried out with a train completing 4 circuits with no issues.
As a result a certificate of compliance has been issued.

Blog has been updated and a “scenery” page will be produced in the fullness of time.

Pictures of the testing.

It took a while but the Stainz to Cane Tank Engine conversion is close enough to call complete, just needs a few finishing touches like coal in the bunker some non slip plating in front of the tanks and exhaust piping to the smoke box.
As luck would have it, the coupler height of the Stainz shunting device (do not know the correct name) is the same height as the whole stick wagons.

A Couple of pictures to whet the appetite till the blog gets an update; it will have all the details about the bash and the control and sound functions…

This is the inspiration, it is a Cane Loco in the Ipswich Railway Workshop Museum

The next step is to make loads for the rake of wagons I have; I am using Raffia which was suggest by someone on this forum.

I do not make accurate models of locos I see, but rather I use them for inspiration; guess I could argue that they are a prototype, because as far as I know there is no other like them.

GAP.

This is a wonderful repurposing of the STAINZ! It makes me wish the M&K Sugar Co. had had shattered STAINZ-es instead of m2075s on hand!

Standby Eric I have a 2076 which has a similar outline to the 2075 that is due for a bash, going to get rid of the European look and Australianise it.

GAP,

Looking forward to it. The last m2075 was a proof of concept. I am hoping to take the next one a bit further in terms of modeling and ideas. I warn you, I am prepared to steal liberally from your ideas!

Eric

Some pictures of the whole stick wagons and the new loco on the twilight run out to the farms, to drop off some empties for the morning’s cut.

Eric feel free to help yourself to any ideas you like after all I help myself to yours and others ideas ( eg I am trying raffia as a cane load for my wagons).

My advise is to do what I do. i just close my eyes and say to myself “faint heart never won fair maiden” or that good old US saying “full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes” (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)but that is usually after a few XXXX beers.

My motto in modelling is “it’s not a stuff up till I can’t fix it” and when ask if I know what I am doing I always answer “No but that has never stopped me yet!!!”(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I have to credit Bill Barnwell for the raffia idea, but, thanks for permission to steal! Overcoming “analysis paralysis” in projects was key lesson learned largely through the encouragement of others on this site. And, perhaps, a few local IPA-s…

Bill Barnwell that’s who it was. I couldn’t remember who used it and who I copied.

Some pictures of removable loads I have made for my wagons.
Made out of raffia and still need some weathering.

GAP;

I must confess that every time I read the name of your railway, my mind jumps to J. R. R. Tolkien’s book The Hobbit. It’s because the dwarf brothers Dwalin and Balin were part of Thorin Oakenshield’s company.

Its the name of the street I used to live in when I first started in large scale.

Never made the hobbit connection maybe I should include a middle earth scene somewhere.

I weathered my Steam Cane Loco.

This was the effect I was after.

I made removable loads for my whole stick wagons.

Here are the wagons behind the steam cane loco.

Thanks Eric

Debating which project to start next the LGB 23620 side rod diesel, a garret bashed from a newquida loco and 2 stainz mechanisms or the LGB2076 tank engine.

Not to mention the sugar mill which will be a layout in itself by if all my plans come together.

Then there is the HO which is my first foray into DCC
