Interesting they still are keeping the “cab” concept so you don’t have to remember that “nasty” DCC address…

Of course with 4 digits available, all DCC people use the number on the loco, or a simple rule if it is more or less than 4 digits… makes it simple and nothing to remember, as opposed to a cab number.

Internally they seem to be handling like the current software.

There’s some interesting and good features, like the DCC control setting, to transmit your loco’s speed setting or all the cabs you have defined… of course if you have 40 locos and have cabs for each of them (which you must) then if it transmits all 40 locos, there is most likely a communication problem… but a reasonable adaptation of their “architecture” to DCC.

TENTATIVE could be a good thing. It depends on why they posted the manual.

I hope they did it to get comments and/or suggestions on the DCC system.

Their approach is a little different and I am sure it will be liked by some and

disliked by others… I have been pleased with the current Revolution product.

Some questions about revolution apologies if this is in the wrong spot, please move it to an appropriate area if it is.

I have just been given a Revolution Transmitter and receiver and would like to know how to hook it up to a battery powered loco.

What I have is the receiver plugged into a board that has 2 fuses on it with connection pads labeled;

TR+ (Track +)

MOT+ (Motor+)

HD1

HD COM

HD2

MOT- (Motor -)

TRK- (Track-)

My guesses are next to the labels in brackets.

On the other end there are header pins that I think should be plugged into a loco main board from reading the instructions on the DVD that came with it. These seem Aristocraft centric understandably.

What I would like to know is if I connect the “Track + & -” to a battery + & - respectively and the motor to the MOT terminals would I be able to run a loco?

The loco I am thinking of using does not have a circuit board in it. Currently it has a Receiver and a motor controller and a battery (no smoke or sound).

Additionally I have a second receiver which according to the person who gave it to has a blown MOSFET that he attempted to replace but it did not work. I would like to know is it economically repairable or should I just maybe get another bearing in mind that I am in Australia.

Now all I have to do is think which loco I am going to modify. Probably my 3 truck shay as that has a good sound card in it and I can add a whistle and maybe light control.

Did I miss a brochure describing all the features and benefits?

Still in beta Bruce… I think… mine came in the mail some time ago, and I have not had time to play with it yet.

I think the positives are it’s probably the least expensive way to run a DCC decoder from wireless and battery. The other side is that you need to use their throttle and there’s some limitations in functionality and it is not a system.

But, like the existing Revolution, I believe it will enjoy a niche and is well placed.

Thanks, Tom. I could not find those descriptions from the first link, so that helps. Although it does appear that much of the description is aimed at the experts. And seeing this as part of the description:

No necessary remember the locomotive or accessory DCC address number and simply choose the name of the given locomotive or accessory.

Quite a few different ones. Have some NCE 102 built from kits back when I built my command station, boosters, throttles and etc from kits.

Have some Digitrax and newer NCEs. The list gets long after 20 or 25+ years. I like my TCS the best. I really like the TCS WOW decoders.

I have operated all of the ones I mentioned and programmed most of them without any difficulties.

Oh, you have already tried that many with the Revolution DCC? Wow that’s a lot of effort. So, I can take it that you have not found any weird incompatibilities?

Interesting, would have thought that some of them might be troublesome in service mode.

So if I’m reading about this correctly, the Revo DCC uses a standard DCC decoder to actually drive the engine, and the engine could be battery or track powered?

That is correct. The Revo unit on the train is a Receiver/5amp booster. This can also be used to drive accessory decoders.

I think that there is a 15amp receiver/booster in the works, but I don’t know how far away that is.

I have not had any problems. Have I tried every possibility? - No. I don’t the time or effort to do that.

I have used it for over 4 months and have been very happy with the results. So far, it has met and exceeded my expectations.

That’s great news Tom… speaks volumes for the product.

I have not used mine yet, but I assume it uses the same user interface… and loco id’s 1-99 and cabs that have one or more locos assigned, can you verify?

Have you accessory decoders yet? With a 5 amp capability, it appears you could drive multiple decoders if you did not try “service mode”
