Repainting a Aristo SD-45

That is a sweet looking loco. I like the paint lettering

Terry

WOW!

Sweet!

I personally would love to see A/C and a sinclair antenna on it.

Your model, your era, your call …looks great!

Nice! That green almost looks a bit faded.

I looked up roof mounted locomotive air conditioners on line and found a good picture of this type of unit . So last nite I built this one out of 0.80 plastic and some bits I had in my parts / scrap bin. Its not exact but its close.

The A/C unit looks great. It will pass inspection with anyone except a rivet-counter who couldn’t do better himself!

Very, very nicely done, Mike… It looks great…

Well i’m plugging along on this project . Got the grey airbrushed on . Ran into a little snag as I ran out of Polly Scale UP dark grey halfway through .Got the long hood and frame done but didn’t have enough to do the whole thing. I did have a new bottle of Polly Scale CSX grey and a little black so I mixed it up and finished the rest of the parts. Its a little lighter but I can live with it. It will give the engine a little character . Next I will clear coat it for some decals. The clear coat will also darken it and hopefully blend it together better. Heres a few pictures.

That looks amazing! Excellent job.

That’s really nice, Mike!

Beautiful!!

Here you can see how the paint darkens after its clear coated. Got the frame and cab done and later today i’ll do the rest. Gotta head out to work now. Heres a picture. .

Nice.

Jon.

Gotta do a little tweaking of the ends of the long and short hoods to make the body shell lay flat to the frame. Its raised cuz of the screw heads from the coupler mount . No biggie as i’ve done this before on my GP-38 rebuilds I did years ago. Now I want to figure where i’ll put the ditch lites. There’s not much room on the front of the pilots . I might deck mount them like I did on the geeps , we’ll see.

loving the progress pics! Amazing work.

Mike, that engine looks fabulous and I think everyone would agree, you do fine work. I love the coloring and the lettering is crisp and clear. The faded look is awesome.

Please let me know when I can send you my BNSF Dash 9 for a repaint…LOL

Great work!

Stacy

Thanks guys for your kind comments . I love doing this stuff ! Stacey the paint is gonna be a gloss finish when i’m done. Polly Scale goes on dull . I don’t usually weather my CJM stuff as it gets a natural weathering after years of use.

Building models for me is breaking the model down to small projects and finishing them and then moving on to the next thing. Sometimes it seems like the list is getting longer. I painted the top of the short front hood black and then I finished gloss coating the loco with Krylon Crystal Clear . Now I can decal it when I have the money for decals in the future. I got the number boards started however. I paint them black and then I like to use 1/4 "white vinyl letters . Then I give them a shot of clear to seal them in. Next it will be onto the lighting . Heres some pictures .

That’s amazing! Looks great!

I made a trap door on the bottom of the fuel tank to access the 9 volt batteries for the lites. The cover plate is held on with 4 little screws and made of 0.40 plastic sheet. I also drilled a new hole in the chassis to move the lead weight forward to clear the trap door opening. I also picked up these neat little wire / manifold packs. I soldered a small piece of wire to the manifold to make all the little male ends active . This will give me the ability to have 4 wires in and one out . That will make the wiring easier for me. Electricty is not my forte , just ask my wife. Anyhow , here are a few pictures , thanks for all the comments and for watching.
