Reading is one of my other hobbies

BD, I nominate Bill H. for some sort of “resurrection award”, in reading 5+ year old threads, responding to them in some interesting way, thereby invoking good responses from others, and thus bringing the thread – and all its voices – to life once again.

Good job, Bill.

PS,

I just “read” the audiobooks my wife buys off Audible. Figure better bang for the buck. Plus I’ve gotten lazy in page-turning, cuz it’s nice to just listen yourself to sleep. Downside is that when the story gets good I’m awake until 1 am! Recently did half of the Joe Picket books, and am currently working through Reacher stories. Not exactly mind-improving, but a nice ending to the day. Often.

I alternate somewhat with non-fiction books on mining history & related topics, which are often more interesting than I expect. On the average, however, it takes a lot longer to get through these works, because objective #1 (going to sleep) is generally well-facilitated.

Thanks Cliff,

If you are into Audiobooks, definitely put The Rosie Project on your list, but be inside. I swallowed a fly whilst bike riding as I was laughing out loud.

I don’t usually recommend books, but I was enjoying this one so much I had started to tell people about it while I was still on chapter 2.

I think you can hear it on YouTube but you’ll have the ads to contend with.

Rick;

A silly thought just came to me. If Anne McCaffery’s daughter, Gigi, were an only child, would that make her a Gigi1?

I get most of my books from the local library. They subscribe to the ‘Overdrive’ service, which can support reading on a Kindle for most eBooks, or on the Library app. I have both on my Android tablet, and both let me download for reading when there is no wifi - like on the Autotrain in Georgia.

With Libby, I am also subscribed to some magazines, and they deliver the latest version when it comes out. Like “Heritage Railway”, which covers the UK railway restoration scene (100+ pages every month!)
Libby also support multiple libraries, so it checks the MD and FL libraries when I search for a book.

Bill, thanks for the list. I looked for ‘We are Bob’ but the library only has it in hardback. But Rosie is in the eBook list, so I am 9th on the list waiting for a copy.

Cliff his been reported to the moderator for saying: Bill

I am just rediscovering Bruce Catton. I had ignored his work for 30+ years. Reading Catton’s work now, having consumed volumes of material published before and after him, I truly appreciate what he did for Civil War scholarship.

Eric

Peter I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
