Today I had time for a visit (it’s been awhile) and I come by this post.

First off, I don’t post much on ANY forum anymore…or do 1 liners just to stay in view. Why? I’m too busy playing trains or doing other stuff.

Sure, being retired is great, I love the “Do what I want, when I want” life but, I sure as hell don’t hang on my computer 24/7 like some folks. If I have something to share I share it. Looking for a posting that provides a place to bust someone’s stones or, to state something or things that they “guess” are facts but aren’t… is nothing more than empty headed, long winded, old lady gossip to me.

Go out… blow the stink off…run a train…get a life.

Sorry, Hanzi...I'm not rising to the bait.
Wasn't there somethning in your previous post about "let's stop the childish name calling and innuedos"?
If there wasnt in his, there was in mine.

I think the whole point is that it is just a Hobby, anything else is just so much Bull Shit! I had a life before I got into this hobby, and I may have one again if I get out.

If any of you have anything other than its a hobby in mind, do the rest of us a favor and get the hell out now!

Sue and I had a serrious discussion yesterday when I mentioned tearing out the layout and putting most of the goodies up for sale. Her comments to me were “What are you going to do for relaxation?”

My response was do you think that being out 100 degree weather in the summer and below freezing in the winter is relaxation?

Having folks show up at open houses and trash the yard and then bad mouth my choice of beer, and complain about the cater when all I get at their house is a boiled hot dog and the cheapist beer that Wal-Mart sells?

Help a guy repair a locomotive that he messed up doing something he had no skills to do and then have him think it has a life time warranty when he never offered to pay for the repair in the first place?

Use my discount to help a guy get something that he otherwise could not afford then have him go tell the local hobby shop how stuipd they were for charging what they charge?

Or worse yet change his mind so that I get stuck with both the locomtive and the freight?

Guys I am sure that most of us, see ourselves in anyone of the above. We do this because we really have an interest in both the hobby and helping others. These forums are a way to help others, not try and destroy them. I can see the need for differnt camps or web sites, but I really at time think that all of them are counter productive to the hobby in general. N scale started just a few years before large scale and it grew by leaps and bounds without web sites. Maybe large scale would be even bigger without them!

My daughter has a gay couple living next to her and her husband and other than their lifestyle they are church going salt of the earth people, they were over here for an open house and one of them made the remark to my son-in-law that he never saw gays squabble as much as train people. I just about wet myself laughing. If outsiders can see that, what does everyone else think of us?

Sue suggested that I get rid of the internet service, she may have a point, but personally I am glad that I saved all of those train boxes. The attic over the garage is full of them. I have been looking at ride on trains, something that I can enjoy with the grandchildren, What ever I can get for close to 1800 feet of track and 80+turnouts some of the track and switchs which have not been used, plus close to 90 locomotives and 300 plus cars may go a short ways to buying a ride on starter set.

But what the heck at 60 I am too old to start another hobby. I think I am just going to get rid of this stuff and do some voluenteering at the local VA hospital.

hehehe

Bob, that last little line had me laughing. My nephew in Scotland, who is three, was watching my daughter Casey, 16, in the bathroom. They were doing the usual chatter about what they were going to do that day. She asked him what he thought she should do.

He spouts, “get that hair fixed, get a boyfriend and get a life!”

I just about wet myself !!!

Sometimes kids have more insight that we give them credit for! Or as they say, “out of the mouths of babes”.

Ron, I understand, completely. I’m in this hobby because I enjoy running the trains, pretending that I have an empire, operating them as close to real as I can manage.

I’m in a club because for the most part, I enjoy their company. I help people with their RR’s when I can because, well, that is the way I’m built.

I don’t expect thanks, I do it because it is the doing that gives me satisfaction. Yes, there are a few bad apples, fortunately none in our club, they tend to drift away.

You should see the ungrateful SOB’s I have to put up with in medicine. They get lawyers! :frowning:

Personally I don't know how folks have so much time to visit so many sites. I drop in here now and then but i have so many projects going with different folks and a couple of newbies helping them keep going. I don't have time to read everything. Plus I have dropped the chat part simply cause I can't follow so many chats at once.

Plus tring to develop my own RR into a more muture finished project is alot harder than i thought.

Any keep up the good work Bob.

Marty,

One doesn’t need to visit that many sites  , but to answer your question in my case when I sit at the 'puter doing layout design or whatever else I need to do on the 'puter then I take a 10 minute break every hour to stretch and relax. During those ten minutes I also find the time to check the posts on three fora.

The rest get’s checked “whenever” (very infrequently!), unless I get a heads-up from someone on a certain topic.

Like Rodney King said : Can’t we all just get along !

No, because people are strange, and our weakness is also whats makes us strong, or however that saying goes ! Were all different and when you get a big group together there’s always going to be problems, especially when you mix in Canadians  or any different cultures. I’m surprised we get along as well as we do really.

Ron, I know you’ve had some health problems the last couple of yrs. I hope you are recovering from your eye problems. I know stuff like that takes away from being able to enjoy a hobby and the frustration of not being able to do what we used to do. Maybe you could scale down and just have something small to enjoy when you can . I think we all cycle through enjoying our hobbies, I know I do. You do so much Ron, with the shows and everything else, you might just need a rest from it for awhile. Instead of being a job within a hobby just a hobby.

Oh well just my .02 worth
