Large Scale Central

RCS-BELTROL 2.4Ghz remote control system test video

So do a lot of other Large Scalers and there is no R/C available for it other than adding a G-wire plus AW or NCE TX which are expensive.
However, it will only be for battery R/C.
It will be like adding a Phoenix sound to a regular ESC but without any wiring needed.

So, you’re essentially just using the QSI as a sound generator, then, not using the throttle/direction/lighting controls in favor of what’s on the RCS board? If so, any thought to bringing that functionality to the “standard” line of RCS controls?

Hi Kevin.

The answer to the first question is no.

This is meant to be a low cost no brainer installation without any mods to AC locos.
The QSI simply plugs into the P’n’P socket on an AC loco. The BELTROL hardware can be mounted in a trail car and connected to the pigtails at either end of an AC loco. Then the operator will simply throw the TRACK - BATTERY switch. The BELTROL hardware will power the QSI as if it were a track powered installation. The operator will have a programmable standing idle voltage, control of Speed, Direction and Whistle/Horn + Bell. There will also be an emergency stop function.
With a bit of work, the system can be installed on board the loco with the batteries.

Non AC installations will of necessity be a bit more complicated.

The answer to the second question is alas, also no.
Actually RCS has always had the ability to do this from trackside with the QSI equipped H0 locos, but, unfortunately the idle voltage was all wrong for Large Scale, was not variable and the program cannot be changed.

So, if I’m understanding correctly, you’re essentially using the motor outputs of the Beltrol to control the QSI board as one would do using analog DC; using their voltage triggers, etc. for bells, whistles, and all that jazz as opposed to using the extra channels on the Beltrol to do that, but doing so via AC’s socket. Nifty!

Thats it.

I have solved the problem of powering the QSI with a pwm output ESC such as the low cost AL-5r 5 amp relay controlled ESC.
The cost will be kept down by recommending a 6 channel 2.4 Ghz R/C that will cost about US$50 for a TX and RX. Extra 2.4 Ghz RX’s will be less than US$20 + the BELTROL ESC.
I will have proposed details up on the BELTROL website soon.

The sound trigger functions will still be controlled by the regular side to side aileron or rudder stick, but, instead of the output being transistors the stick will control momentary direction reversal to blow the Whistle/Horn with a 3/10ths of a second pulse to turn the Bell ON and another to turn it OFF.

I think the concept should sell quite well.
Low cost.
Long Range.
Great sound.
No wiring.
Easy to use.

HEheheh so this is the next gen after EVOs and Sierras?

The ALPHA-Q for QSI sound is just one of them Bart.

The OMEGA version of the BELTROL will be available soon.
The OMEGA will not control the QSI, but, will have all sorts of other features.

Today I installed the ALPHAv9 chip in the ESC. Perhaps Tony will explain the differences in control. The change took about five minutes, including replacing the chip and re-calabrating.

The train continues to run great.

JimC.

Thanks Jim.
Jim is very kindly doing some more extensive field testing than I can achieve here in Australia.
The ALPHAv9 program version is virtually identical to v8 except for a refinement of the lockout preventing accidental direction change.

The ALPHA version is now complete and a start had been made on the next generation OMEGA program. This will have extra features such as built in sound trigger controls, settable default loco direction on start up, speed matching of dissimilar locos and brake apply - brake release control.

The Beltrol ALPHA system will be running at MartyCozad’s meet late in September. Anyone wanting to check it out, just find me.

Tony…Where would you purchase one of these control thingies I called the people listed on their web site left messages( multiple times)
no responce I even pm you, no responce . I have a few Q??? for my perticular sys LIKED WHAT I SEEN IN THE TEST FILM , I am at at stand still at this point

Hello Ed.

To the best of my knowledge I have never received an correspondence from you.

Dave Goodson has been unavailable for the last few days and Don Sweet is moving house.
Have you also tried the other BELTROL dealers.

If you cannot get any help you can order direct from me.
You can E mail direct from the Beltrol website.
