When the conditions are right it’s best to have parallel tracks. That way when you knock down the snow on one track you can always change tracks and push it back on the track you just cleared.
Jon I love your photos! I also have had a series of massive derailments in the snow. I have found a pair of SD-45’s in run 8 can do some damage.

Thanks. I’ve had plenty of good results too; I just think the crashes are fun to laugh at. No locomotives or cars were seriously injured in the making of these photos. This one nearly gave me heart failure…
I had just finished wiring up the train; it has a Motor +/- train line from front to back. LEDs on the plows and the two locomotives get power from the “HEP” car at center which has the battery, R/C and sound electronics. I was backing (Red plow is rear) and the plow derailed. I was a few feet away as it teetered before going over slowly. The train line cables pulled the loco and power car with it in slow motion. Snow acts as a pretty good cushion though.
Thanks all. Great pictures, too.
I hadn’t realized the locos need to acclimate… I keep mine in the garage, which is unheated but insulated and connected to the house, so they’re obviously not at an outdoor temperature when I schlep them out. So that’s a good thought for sparkies.
I hadn’t thought about running live steam, either. I suppose I need to get a plow that Dora or Frank S. can push… I was thinking that it would take a lot longer to get them up to pressure when it’s in the teens outside. Maybe not.
It’s supposedly going to snow again tomorrow night (around an inch) so maybe I’ll get the chance to try out some of your tips
Or maybe this
Now that’s my kind of snowblower…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Clear the snow from the comfort of your living room.
That explains a lot. My sparkies out in the garage have no problem pushing the plow because the wheels are the same temp as the track, but when I tried to use the steamer last month, the wheels kept slipping. I had prepped sammie in the house, then brought it outside to steamup. Thanks for the tip guys, makes sense. https://vimeo.com/user39321324
Didn’t take any longer to steamup at +2 F, just turned up the burner a bit more
Joe I follow your instructions everytime I post a video, and sometimes it comes up, other times, like above, it just shows a link

Mike,
I checked your source code and you did not embed the video. You hot linked it with this command {href}. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)
Took your advice, ran Dora in the snow…

Added the “S” to the embed code address
Dora looks real good running in the snow!
WHY is this SOOOOO hard for you guys? Just check the code using the <> button before posting and if the video embed code does not have the https address simply add it! (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-kiss.gif)
Please stay logged into LSC on the secure address www.https://largescalecentral.com/forums and all this fuss could be avoided.

Dan, this is hilarious! Your neighbors must think you’re crazy? Me, I’d love to have one of these, and it’s amazing the way you’re in total control of it’s movements.
The width between the treads of the machine…is there enough room to straddle large scale rails? so you could use in on track?
John, that’s not mine… I wish it was. Just found it on youtube when searching for 3D printed snowplows
