Large Scale Central

Power time!

When selecting any system try to find a place to try it out first. The key part is what goes in your hand is comfortable for you and only you can answer that. Our layout is large and DCC. Yes most loco have some backup power in the loco (small batteries or supercaps). We do that to completely avoid any problems in ops sessions which can last 3-5 hours. The 10 amp power stations are best for DCC when you consider growth.

Should you need NCE 10 amp ones I have several extra ones available at 50% of list.

All you you battery guys need to stick to a battery thread. This thread is about DCC. Later RJD
Well it was, until the original poster started asking about battery power himself.

How many locos do you own today? If the number is small I'd forget about track power and start with battery. You'll probably end up there someday anyway. Most of us have.
Nope, It was Jon who done the dirty deed :D Ralph

Agreed Ralph. When the interest of the original poster was then piqued, he wanted battery information.

And, so it begins… lol

Geeze, I’m sorry already. I still have track power wired and most of my locos are track power only. I think DCC is really cool too. OK?

NO.... you never fed the last one.... it's skeleton is still hitched to the hitching post... :)

Nah, Run live steam power. The heck with all those electrons and capacitors and diodes and stuff.

Water + gas = power at most any time. No need to plug anything in, anywhere. Just fire up and go.
