Posting Pics

If it’s that easy , then it shouldn’t take you long to do a write up on it then , eh Steve ?

Mike, Assuming your pictures are stored at a website and assuming they are the correct size. Max 640 pixels wide and around 50k. All you have to do is type in, or copy and paste, the URL of the pic in the field where you type.

No need for the usual url.

The pic will automatically appear in the posting.

Is that simple enough?

Hello , Tony ,
Thanks for trying to help . Your “img/url/img” has never entered any of my attempts .
The pictures are stored on my computer , not a web site . Is that the root of the whole problem ?
When John Bouck sent me a write up , it made no reference to getting a web site , and on a couple of occasions , I managed to get pics into Freight Shed .
I go through what I think is the correct procedure , i.e.–copy the picture , go to freight shed and click the address at the top , and then click Paste --that has missed out a few stages , I know , but bear with me .
The snag is when I right click looking for Paste , that is "dimmed " , or unselectable .
The procedure I used involved that in part . It also involved "sliding " the “copy” whilst holding down the right click key . What’s missing ?
I have IE6 , and Mozilla . I also have Picasa , Olympus Media , Photo Impression . I have even tried using the inbuilt Picasa method of transferring , but it only allows transfer to its own domain (in the broadest sense of the word ) . Similarly , Yahoo’s system is so hell bent on trying to sell things it makes it very difficult to run through a train of operations --every other step you are prompted to try some new thing .
I have offers from very nice site members offering to post for me . That shows what a load of good chaps there are around , and I am grateful . The problem is , do I accept one offer at the risk of offending someone else ? I do not wish to do that . So , if I am to stick to my principles of trying to stay friendly with everyone , I really need a write up .
Incidentally , if I receive such a text , email or site post , I promise I will type up the whole thingy from start to finish for others to copy and use . That is the least I could do .
Mike

PS . It just occurred to me , are people that have this info worried about posting it and getting criticised ?
We all ask questions about train stuff without worry , so why should a set of instructions be any different ?

Mike,

There are 20 FreightShed owners (including you), someone should be able to give the blow by blow on how to tranfer from own 'puter to the freightshed!

In a word. YES!

They need to be on a website.
As I understand it a freight shed is where you can do that right here.
How you actually do that I have no idea.
Mine are stored at the RCS website so it is easy for me.

Mike,

Do you know how to login to the “Freight Shed”?

When you access the “Freight Sheds”, on the same line as “Large Scale Central - Freight Sheds” about 2/3 down the page, on the far right it says “Log In”.

Click on that and it wil ask for your Username and password. That is between you and Bob.

Type that info in and hit the button that says “Login”

After that you’ll get a screen that gives an option to “Upload Files”.

Click “Upload Files”.

A screen will come up that says File 1 through 5. Click browse on File1.

It will then ask you to get a picture (file) from another source (maybe your computer).

After you have put that address in File1, click the buttoin marked “Finish”.

Your picture is now in the “freight Shed” and you can just copy oand paste that fiel name into your post on the Forums and it will show up.

Hope this helps.

Tony , yes , that’s the crunch–how do they get to Freight Sheds ?

Mike,
Ric has just given you a clear how to.

Even I can follow that.

Before you upload any pics make sure they are entitled with some sort of logical file name in your own computer so that you can find them easily when you need to.
Of course you may only want toi upload a few compared to the many hundreds I have for the how to postings I make.

Three things , first I was posting the last one while Ric was , so didn’t see it . Second , I have done what’s laid down , Third , I didn’t resize it . And , four , I will now look and see if there is a pic Yes , there is , How would ya like this in your garden then , Ric ? About 45 mins from where I live .

OK , chaps , I get the general idea , it is all in hard copy --paper-- and I shall try not to lose it .
When I have worked out how to downsize (Picasa only downsizes for email ) I shall type it all up .
In the meantime , thanks to all of you for your encouragement , and to Ric in particular for stickin’ his neck out .
Right now , I have to go out for a while , so you will be spared any drama for a while .

Mike

I knew you could do it and there is the proof…

Us ol’ fardts just take a little more time learnin’ to do the job… Of course the memory bit is something else !!

Cheers,

Weeeel ,Darryl , we just needs a bit o’joggin’ an’ it all falls inta place . Mine do anyway . They fell way back .
Mike

I would love to put a face to the text Mike. How about a picture of yourself?

Mike is a bit camera shy.

Probably still working to make that twinkle in his eye show up in the pictures.

Oh , my fans , if I post a picture of me , you will swoon .
But what I can do is refer you to the thread in this General Discussion Forum entitled
"A Large Scale Fan to the Rescue " By Ric Golding .
Just look a couple or so weeks back , and bear in mind that I forgot the title of the thread already . So it’s a bit approximate .
Michael the Hairless one

OoooooooooKay

Awhile back, 5 years ago, I purchased my first and only digital camera. I sat the photo size to 640 x 480. All pictures have been taken at that setting. To be truthful, though others can, I can’t see a difference in clarity of this to other pictures. Of course, I never look at the quality of detail of a picture, I’m only interested in the content and information it gives or records. My family really hates this.

My point of saying this is that I have no idea how to resize a picture, nor do I really want to learn. Its kind of like DCC, golf and disarming explosives, not really important things in my life. So Mike, if you can set your camera to 640 x 480, the confuser guys say that is a good size to send pictures across the internet and can easily be viewed here.

Now , Ric , you’ve seen my attempts with big buttons on a computer , howja think I’d do on a teensy set of buttons and a fully automated camera that ignores what you say because it knows better ? It does , too . The auto function always comes out better than the "driven by Mike " function .
I was a whizz with a Box Brownie . I can have a snigger now , 'cos only us old uns and a few camera colecting freaks will know what I’m on about . HEEE HEEE HEHE .OOOPs ,
I swallowed my chewing gum .
I bought my first "proper " camera in Hong Kong in 1955 , a Japanese copy of a Leica . £5 ,or $80 HK , or $20 US .I still have it . It still works . I can’t walk to the shop to get the film processed . I don’t work . You can’t win . Fun trying though .

Mike, all the film developers around here closed down. I would have to travel a couple of suburbs away now if I wanted film developed.

I still have a perfectly good Pentax SLR and a range of lenses to go with it.

When I can afford a newer digital camera than the early 2.1 megapixel Fuji I have now, I will get a Pentax so that I can use the lenses I have.

BTW.
I also still have a Brownie Box camera.

Tony
I had (Still have) an old Pentax SLR (the A3000) and a raft of lenses for it, so last year, when it was time for me to get a serious digital camera, I wanted to get a Pentax. I ended up with the Pentax ist* DS, and love it. It takes all my old lenses and filters.

My 3c (adjusted for inflation)
