Large Scale Central

Piko 38217 Santa Fe Mogul - Sneak Peak

As an after thought, the pretties may be what it takes to attract OTHERS to the hobby. Y’know those non-scalers that just want something ‘friendly’ in the garden, say wives and daughters … to stereo type!

Rather than condemn, I’ll pass on the Pretty.

A postscript, there are a couple of green boilers… but tastefully done.

Wait til they put 2 back to back and call it a Farley!

John

It is out of scale in so many ways, I can’t begin to say. One thing has already been mentioned - The discrepancy between the boiler size and the domes. I’d sure hate to be the trying to keep that thing going if it were a real loco!

Is the presumption the only color combination available – or to be made available – is what we see in the photo?

In black 'n silver in the smoke box, I would be interested — at least somewhat – I want to know the size of the loco.

As I said earlier, no question that TRAINWORLD will make PIKO the LGB we remember. I enjoyed the “favor” (initial posting) given by the TRAINWORLD folk to enable the photo to be published on this site. Clever marketing is an OK in my book with such sparse new large scale offerings.

Based on Pikos engine and this engine, i’m betting there is a prototype engine out there that looks very similar to Piko’s model

The question is, who’s gonna waste time looking for the actual prototype

Really? Let me know when you find one.

The extra included in the box with these engines will be a box of Gravol®

HJ-
Yep, Gravol is an anti-nausea product.

If the color is “it” and no other options, then there is no LGB-style forgiveness given to PIKO for offering a less toy-like option. This is their Mogul option. Paint it or leave it.

HOWEVER…

If TRAINWORLD is setting up a second announcement of a PIKO loco that is for THIS audience, they get an award for securing the most brand-name print --all of it just for the cost of a photo.

Hi Mark:

That live steam loco is a beautiful model correctly scaled to an actual prototype. There were Standard Gauge and five foot gauge straight boilered 4-4-0 Americans and 2-6-0 Moguls.

Research American Civil War period or ask David Fletcher. The Russia Iron boiler cladding colour may be “off” but otherwise that is one very attractive Standard Gauge straight boilered loco.

Well it is 12:15 AM July 1st. Lots of exciting events here in Ottawa later today to celebrate Canada Day. Great fireworks at 22:00 hours. Off to bed to take in the excitement later today. Hans, it is super humid and super hot here in Ottawa. At least it is not the Arctic Cold of February.
