Love it so far Pete …EXACTLY as the topic describes it!
Are we open for business yet. I can see the tables and benches outside the front door now.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Funny you mention that David, last night as the finish carpenters were doing the window trim, cars kept stopping by to see if it was open.
I made the pillars and glued all the window trim, cut and glued the boardwalk porch, but now I need to figure out to attach the pillars, I am thinking they will get glued and pinned to the boardwalk and not to the roof which I would like to keep removable, so that later I can add lights if I want and just in case , since the Challenge is a tribute to Ray Dunakin, if I decide to fill the insides with table silverware and pork and beef parts and lots of beer bottles. Now to figure out how to make a suitable door for this place, and how to cap off the pillars and the fireplace, since ther is no actual hole in the top, what would Ray do?.. what would Ray do?..
WWRD? Detail , And then when thats done, Add some more detail.
OOPS!
When do we tap the first Keg?..Looking very nice!
That is a good looking building and it does look like a BBQ place. Will you put a BBQ sign on the roof ? That is smart to keep the roof detachable.
On the chimney how about putting 1 or 2 square or round pieces on top to give the illusion that the chimney is lined.
You could also put a chimney cap on it.
I have experimented with using incense blocks but haven’t gotten very far. I can’t seem to keep them lit in the enclosed top of a chimney.
If you could use incense I bet they have one that smells like bacon !
Hey I like the incense idea.
OK Pete,
I consider you a friend so this pains me to have to say this. But I think your a liar. There is no way this is your first scratch built building. If this IS your first scratch build. . .then I feel sorry for you. . .because you have set the bar high for yourself.
Na just kidding. Very nice work. . .makes me hungry just looking at it. If you haven’t already hired a head chef consider hiring Dave T. He is a pit master.
WRONG… Dave might be able to make the pit, But BOOMER is the Pit Master. I have had the very good fortune to have the epicurean delight of consuming some of Boomers, Brisket, and Ribs. Really GOOD EATS.
Oh yes my mistake it is Boomer
Actually Devon I started making my mom’s house a month ago, got the walls up and started doing the impossible so far hard to get figured out roof, when the challenge came along. But cutting some squares of coroplast is hardly not close to all the work I have done here. And since I have spent a year reading your, and others and asking lots and lots of questions, I kind of had some early problems figured out.
Looks good in pictures, but like my woodworking skills, I see what I have built and I see every flaw, missmade joint, every mistake ( there are a lot) and all the things I should have done.
i am the one the 10foot rule was made for… but thanks for the vote of confidence, and the nice words.
The names of the Building are my actual son in laws and Brian is an absolute wizard with BBQ, ribs, chicken(my daughter doesnt like his chicken because it is always juicy!) and even doing burgers. Marco has a small patio in Chicago to grill on and the Carne Asada and things he makes are worth the trip to his place. Augie and Chad have really opened up the world of beer for me besides the mass produced stuff, so it was a natural to put their names on the BBq
Also like a lot people I had planned on naming buildings after family, My grandkids that live nearby have taken this and run with it giving me suggestions for what they want their buildings to look like!
OOps, put the ruler out to show a family member what the size was, forgot to remove it. needs some tweaks ( a lot after looking at the pictures) but I think it is getting close to being ready for the glamor shots. Its been fun and completely frustrating at times, like almost every night I was working on it. Lookinf forward to seeing all the great works every one is doing. Thanks for the nice words everyone.
BBQ, Beer, Trains and Hot Cars?! Can I move in?
Very nice job,
Chris
I can almost smell the BBQ now. Great looking building, Pete.
After some considerations I put some light stain on the boardwalk on the porch, the door, and the beam, a darker stain on the columns and now I think, its about ready for the final glamour/ officially done/ Photos.
This has been so much fun for this first time entering a contest like this and for the first time scratch building something, Thanks to all the encouragement from everyone, the suggestions, the ideas I stole borrowed and I learned a lot and think made some new friends in the process. Look forward to the Show and Tell portion.
Nice car show at the BBQ place. Is that dragster street legal?
Will you build some picnic tables for out front?

Good idea, I think anyway. It’ll be great seeing the final pictures For the first time in the Challenge and the first scratchbuild, you wouldn’t know it. That’s a good-looking build for anyone.

Yes, that’s what’s missing, Todd…picnic tables! Maybe the participants are stopping in for some eats before the big show!
Great Job Pete!!. Can’t wait for the ribs and beer… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
