Opinions on Moving to Oregon

Bryan, It's probably a day's drive from Dave's to Richards. We did it in two days as we stopped for hiking and birding along the way. First day was from Seattle to Newport, but we went via Astoria, down Highway 101, along the coast. That was 320 miles. Next day from Newport down to Port Orford was 150 miles.

If you wanted to do it quicker, you could just take I-5; there’s a lot of little towns on 101, but it was a very nice drive.

I-5.

Boring.

Actually, there IS a place called Boring. It’s in Clackamas County and is off Route 212. Pretty little village-type logging settlement, named after a man, not a state of mind.

Best to get off I-5 at the Springfield/Eugene ramp, follow Highway 126 to Florence, and THEN go down 101. The road from Eugene to Florence runs along the banks of the Siuslaw River, and is amazingly pretty, even when it’s raining.

I was just giving you trash talk about your backwards compliments on the area. It seemed to me you said it was a great place to live and then listed all the bad things. No harm, no fowl meant. It made sense on this end, but as many times, probably didn’t make sense on that end. I’ll now quietly go back under the rug.

Bryan,

Someone told me that FOX makes up all those items, including the weather and the time of day.

And what’s the forecast for Spokane??

'Bout the same.
Mebbe a little less rain and some snow.

My wife and I have talked a number of times about moving from the Seattle area to the Salem area.

Wife and I have gone to Oregon many times and really enjoyed it. Of course we lucked out and didn’t get days of rain. Where ever you go I would advise you to store most of your things, rent or lease for a year to see if you really like it where you are. Wish I had done that!

Don’t you work for Microshaft Tim ? Do you have options to relocate.

Ok Were thinking about a possible move to Oregon for many reasons large and small. What can any of you Oregoneons tell me about pros and cons of moving from Texas to Salem or Portland Area. Or anyone else with knowledge of the state. I know some people that have moved there in the last yr. And of course build it up big. Thanks for any input.
Bryan,

Oregon is beautiful, no doubt about it. Look at state taxes closely…Coming from Texas you’ll pick up a state income tax. The Legislature is liberal (read: they’ve never met a tax they didn’t like) and if your own political leanings are moderate to conservative, you’ll want to commit suicide after moving to Portland.

Tom

Ahhh but we have NO sales tax !!! Never nada zip…Also vehicle registration is most reasonable and good for two years except new vehicles at four years. Last renewal on my drivers licence was good for 8 years… Federal government and military retirees pay NO state income tax…

But then we have rain on the western part of the state. LOTS… Small price to pay for less gov in the wallet…

Your story might be different…

Make mine Guinness, STOUT please.

Now you just blew the whole Paradise thing Tom !
