One day project: Build an Aristo Wedge Plow

Duh!

Well good news. I did an experiment using the train-line and the LEDs come on to full brightness as soon as I crack the throttle, before the loco moves! I was going to hide a battery pack in the load, but now I can save the hassle and just wire it to the train-line.

I’ll wire it up so the plow that is moving forward will be lit. Need to add the same array to my existing plow and put a train-line plug on the back of my trail car and we’ll be all set for night plowing. Interesting that when polarity is reversed they glow just a bit. Probably explains why I never get three toots in reverse.

Been taking pictures as I build the light arrays that will get posted tonight.

Photo update: I completed two sets of Daylight lighting systems for both plows today. One is installed and working, the second is waiting for paint to dry. Here are some pictures of the process. Component parts ready for assembly. 3mm PVC foam board and two LED modules…

I use Weldon-16 for PVC to PVC joints…

And the other side…

Assembled, painted and installed on the new plow…

Doesn’t look real prototypical, but in this case I’ll go with practicality…

Powered up…

It’s real cold outside today but I might be tempted to run the train out the window once it gets dark. My indoor tests did a great job of illuminating the track.

Who cares if it wasn’t prototypical, as long as it lights the way. Looks great Jon.

Just wonderin if the snow will give the lights a beating where they’re mounted.
Hope you get some snow so you can test it and find out

Your gonna upset the neighbors.....:).......I love it and like Randy said who cares about prototypical ? There is a prototype for everything and you need a lot of light when plowing snow in the dark!

Test train was run. Not too bad but could use a little more in the center  The hardest part was getting the train-line out of the rear of Cheesy Sound / Battery car. The connector I used was reversed polarity so I ended up doing it twice and of course when I took it apart the second time wires broke. But all fixed & functional now.

@ Ralph - They will definitely see some snow when it’s deep, but they are sealed outdoor modules so I don’t expect that to be a problem. Only time, and snow, will tell.

Are you entering this in the challenge?
