Well, the full story of Version 1 was lost with the archives over at MLS. To make a long story short I built a Phoenix Sound Trail Car with two Radio Shack Minimus 3.5 speakers in it. It was set up with an optional keyboard so you could “play” the triggers when it was stationary - you could also feed the output into a stereo system.

Version 2 added capability to get power from a second trail car with batteries. The build log for Version 3 which eliminated 1 of the two Minims 3.5 and moved the batteries and R/C into the trail car can still be fond here: http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/15875/cheesy-sound-car-version-3

Dave’s pictures (above) show it’s first guest appearance on a foreign road in 2005.

The only sound system that out performed the “Cheesey Sound Car” was the guy that had the diesel front end at the train shows and with amplifiers would make the windows and doors of a convention structure rattle. I was thinking he was at York one year, maybe not. After so many adventures they all blend in to a wonderful memory album that just rattles around up there in the “grey matter”.

If the first year of “York” was 2001, its amazing how much happened that year and the following. I would have thought it was 2000, but I know Ken’s T-shirt collection is an accurate calendar. We held our first OPs in the Fall of 2001, that would have put it right after 9/11, and that seems a little strange. Maybe the first Ops was the Fall of 2000. May 18, 2002 was the record flood at the marina and still holds as the record today. That was 4 feet of water on the parking lot and in buildings. I certainly need a hobby to offset the disaster and stress of the job at that time. Somethings things are great to remember and some wonderful to forget.

I love the statement “Life is what happens, while you are planning your future”.

I want to hear about White Kitty.

Greg

I can’t remember any particulars about WK except for the smoke unit stuff, but he did come up with some off-the-wall stuff. If nothing else he was entertaining…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I remember that guy. He may have been at Your, but I saw him at the big show in Springfield, MA probably 7 or more years ago. I bought his Diesel sound CD to play as background when running trains. Ended up enjoying it more in the car, especially fading it up slowly on unsuspecting passengers! When I bought the CD he said “OK big guy, just be sure and take it easy on the throttle because this thing is Dee-jat-ally Mastered”
