OLD Timer's Memory Site - Nostalgia Dot Com

Thanks Ric for the Reader’s Digest version of World History from the dawn of time.

I had this post half written out when our dog distracted me and I lost it (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

I think I started coming to York a year or two before I bought a digital camera in 2003. Back then I was pretty good at keeping pictures organized. That lasted for about 3 years which are covered here. Finding later stuff is going to be a challenge.

Let’s start with Suleski Transportation’s display at ECLSTS. Even back in 2003 it was a going concern. Where it is going is anybody’s guess. Scott is a little blurry but recognizable by the hat…

In 2003 I attended a seminar by the master of Make them Old & Dirty, Mac MacCella (spelling?)…

I think the fellow in red is Mike Hauptman from Aristo supervising the 2003 100 Car Train attempt…

Even though I attended the weathering seminar AFTER entering the North Slope Southern Wheel/Track Cleaning car it still managed to take second place. In later years a model of this caliber wouldn’t even get a mention due to the amazing stuff being entered…

An early version (also 2003) of the Timesaver. Being close to the ground attracted the kids…

A younger Ric being Ric…

Lawrence “Yogi” Wallace’s table was a favorite place to hang out. This was 2004 with his wife in the background…

The only pictures I have from 2005 are from Marty Cozad’s seminar…

By 2006 the Timesaver had sprouted new and longer legs…

We had a nice looking FEBT display that year featuring Gary Buchanan’s 1:24 steel EBT Box Car and my road side sign…

Other Drag 'n Brag items were displayed on the Alcove front table. Jan Golding stands guard…

The green box cab is Bruce’s and the Cheesy Sound Car made it’s first public appearance, blowing the guys at Phoenix Sound away (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)I’m guessing, based on the 7/8 size, that the orange Box Cab was Bart’s but can’t remember who did the pair of black ones; maybe Gary?..

I’m sure I have more, but it’s going to take some digging. I’ll add to this thread when I have more.

This is the best thread EVAH! I just wish I knew G-scale was a “thing” and could have been around then. I seriously love all these pics memories.

Gary did the 2 black box cabs and the orange 7/8’s one may have been Bob’s. He was into that for a bit.

Bart had a 7/8’s Shay the left parts all over the Kaskaskia RR, since it barely fit going through tunnels.

The poster beside the table is a track diagram of Ric’s RR before he decided to become a gypsy.

I have a few other pictures on Trainweb, but for some unknown reason, when I click on “View/Edit” they go to notepad and end up a bunch of symbols and letters.

Holy Crap …I think that is Shawn!!!

The white “Timesaver” was the earliest stages. 31 inches x 80 inches when readied for travel, because that is what fit in our 1998 GMC Safari van, with black dog Millie, Jan and me. It still exists as part of Dave Masters basement railroad in St. Louis County.

Shadow, back in her young days. 13 years old and still going strong.

We didn’t always have a drag & brag…

We gathered in the bar and talked the night away.

Celebrities were often present

In 2005, Doug Matheson, Fred Mills and Ric Golding presented a session on operations.

Doc Watson showed off his coach

2006 saw us in the bar…

But also in a regular hotel room

The rodents were in full force

I’m not sure who did the black boxcabs but it wasn’t me, mine are yellow. Interesting stuff, I found a few photos from the 97 convention in DC but I don’t think anyone would recognize many in the photos. Also have some from 99 in Chicago and 04 in Cincy, I’ll see what I can dig up.

Wait, what? A picture of Andy smiling?

Priceless.

I can’t believe this. I found pictures from '04 & '06, no '05, and they are all trains, no people!

I remember one year we went to a pizza party that was at the OTHER Holiday Inn that turned out to be no one we knew, or wanted to know us. We did talk to another couple, but I think it was vendors I didn’t know. I don’t remember, it was so long ago. I think our first show was 2004. I had been lurking on LSC.

Some strange pics…

This looks like SOME sort of deal…

And I’m not sure WHAT Rooster is doing to that van…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Lou, if it shows me smiling, it was ““photo-shopped””… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I’m pretty sure that Andy has NEVER smiled…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

NOPE>…I know what it takes to get you to LAUGH! …might look shopped but it ain’t… just a lousy photographer trying to QUICKLY capture the moment

Keep it up and I’m gonna beat your ass boy! “Don’t make me take off my belt” !

This post has been edited by Rooster: Ric did take off his belt that day and I swiped his “Hop A Long Cassidy” pocket knife when he wasn’t looking

Yea, I saw Andy smile, twice. But it happened so fast, that I had no time to get my so called smartphone out of my pocket and take a picture.

I found the Rodent Party sign. Not sure from what year this was…

The Rodents (borrowed from Bruce)

Fr. Fred, if you are listening, please re-tell the history of The Rodents )

Never mind.

Bob, Ken, Stu and Bruce at the 2005 American Invasion of Ottawa

2005 Invasion

Ken Brunt talking with Ric Golding. Ken was the very first American visitor to Ottawa in 1998. Ric, the chief cook for all things BBQ, coined the phrase “The American Invasion of Ottawa” back in 2005.

1998 Invasion

28 April 2011, Ottawa, Canada – Yesterday while Railway President Fred Mills and Roadmaster Gord Bellamy were inspecting the re-construction of Bell, winds gusting to 60 MPH sent a 70 foot spruce tree in Nelson Yard crashing to the ground behind them.

2011 Spruce Tree

That looks expensive. But on the bright side, you should have enough spruce for every scratch-building project that you would ever even consider doing.
