3rd: can I vote for myself, yeah, I pick Matt’s log cabin
Oh, that is just too funny the way you put it…yours was a great build and I liked it a lot. Good for you Matt! I support you 100%!
1st. David Maynard. This build tied together two major items, a derrick and a building. Both very neatly done. Great story about the illustrious Jessie added a lot to the fun of following the progress.
2nd. Matt Kirichok. Just one item, but that little cabin really captures the feel of a simpler time and place. It kinda jumped out at me; a love at first sight sorta thing. I love the lanterns. That sure looks like a little brown jug of Pappy’s special sauce, sometimes known as corn squeezins.
3rd. Todd Haskins. Great choice of what to model and Todd captured the look of the real barn extremely well. Really impressive how much the model tin and the 1:1 tin look the same. Definitely a unique building for Todd’s RR.
OK. I have voted, and to restate the obvious, it wasn’t easy to choose. Amazing workmanship in every entry. I hope everyone is pleased with his entry.
This is tough this year. Everyone did and outstanding job.
My 1st pick… John Passaro Yankee Girl Mine. The weathered boards and roof look outstanding!..
2nd Devon Sinsley 2 Bay engine House. Love the interior and the water tower. Lots of cool details.
3rd Todd Haskins I think Todd captured the look of the original building very well down to the exterior colors of the siding.
I still have the Scale lumber prize to give away. Yu guys really are making this hard this year… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
what a Bitch!
not, for whom to vote, but for whom not to vote.
as Vincent said: “I would gladly put any of the builds on my layout, all look fantastic”
i am most thankfull, that Dave and Larry don’t run for votes… that leaves no more than about half a dozen first places.
so i will vote based on minor detail-differences.
1 - Eric’s section hut. that love for details…
2 - John’s platform-roof. maybe, it’s just the white colour, but it looks so nice, light and victorian.
3 - Todd’s old barn. aged and weathered in a very realistic way.
and my apologies to those, whose marvellous builds i could not vote for, because of the restriction to vote only for three…
Man I agree tough call!
Here are my picks
- Todd’s barn … Todd you nailed it!
- Eric Schade’s section house … details
- Vic Smith, 1/22.5 scale, cliff hanger outhouse … I think I’ve been in one like that
Good luck too all .
Very tough to decide. You guys all stepped up to the plate on this one. But here goes anyways:
- John’s Yankee Girl Mine
- Eric’s Section House
- Randy’s EBT Freight House
Well done ALL of you!
#1 - John
#2 - Eric
#3 - Devon
I’m totally blown away at this “years” challenge and what has been accomplished in such a short amount of time. “ALL” the entries should pat themselves on the back for what they created whether new to the challenge or been there done that!
I personally never met Mik and only knew him from what he posted on LSC. I will say that this “challenge” that he created here has a spot in my heart and certainly promotes the hobby and makes folk jump in and use their skills and talent which is what we want as a fellow hobbyist!
Fantastic work all around guys and thanks for sharing as I totally enjoyed it !
I keep going back to the pictures , the build logs and the back story of how the subject was considered for the build. What interesting ideas, tricks or hacks the builder came up with during the build. Also read with interest how the build went, what unforseen problems were overcome. Reading the build logs was great entertainment, helped me learn things and makes picking a winner just so much harder than I thought it would be. My hat is off to all of you that took the challenge, I admire your workmanship.
1st Place John, Yankee Girl Mine the pictures of the real one and your build are interchangeable
2nd Place Devon , 2 engine house. The detail building of the water tank with working bands and lighting makes it very close to #1
3rd Daktah John, Wall Station Platform. the complex woodwork makes it on the list
Honorable Mention to Todds barn for looking just like the picture
It was difficult for me to decide. So many good builds, it makes it tough to pick one above the others.
1 Yankee Girl mine. The realism is just stunning.
2 East Broad To Freight House, the intricate wood work is just beautiful.
3 The passenger shelter at Wall. Again, the intricate wood work impressed me.
Everyone should be proud of what they created.
Another Year and again great builds and difficult choices.
My picks:
First place: John Passarro’s the Yankee Girl Mine
Second place: Daktah John’s passenger shelter
Third place: Todd Haskins Irish shed
Mick
OK …I have reviewed and re-reviewed by reading the build threads more than twice since the photos for voting thread started. Once again it’s an incredibly difficult choice this year and they are all fantastic finished or not!
1st…John Radder and the Passenger Shelter ( I’m a sucker for Victorian architecture as most know. John captured the underside detail perfectly and this model will make for some fantastic photo ops with his passion for photography)
2nd…Travis Dague and the Firehouse ( With the exception of the hinges I was impressed with the fact everything was made with wood such as the gutters, downspouts, smokestack and especially the bell! There are no add-on’s (except a rain barrel) just a very nice straight forward structure with good looking lines)
3rd…Todd Haskins and the Barn/Shelter ( I don’t know why but it appeals to me? I think perhaps he really captured the prototype and it’s total simplicity. The rounded bowed in roof and the weathering were done quite well.)
This just hasn’t been a good year so far for participating! I ust want to say there have been some really teriffic entries and now I hope I can start catching up! You are all winners!
