Aaron, you’d fit right in.
I am planning to have the train enter my new building. I was thinking of having shelf type storage and it would be great if the train could drive on different levels to keep storage confined to one wall. I was thinking of engineering some type of rotating shelves that would stay level and crank around some type of chain driven device or maybe an elevator type mechanism? Sounds like I maybe overthinking it??
Anybody got any other storage devices like trays or something for extra storage?? I wonder if anybody offers anything already built?? Probably would be tough as these cars and trains are so long.
Bread trays seem to work well for Father Fred and his crew Joe
Joe Check out Greg E’s storage.

This too was inspired by a “Greg” design with input by others.

Very nice, I like the quick access shelves in the door!
Greg
That is too small. I was thinking of something on a much larger scale. Also, I wanted to drive the cars onto something and not remove and replace them on the track every time.
Joe,
Sounds like you need something like the old revolving showcases that were used to display sale items in stores… They had shelves that rotated around, to display the items on each shelve through the glass front…
I know the idea, but have no idea on how to make/acguire one… Seems like something like a bicycle gears on each end, with storage shelves mounted around the chain to store cars on…
Yeah,…yeah yeah…!!
I know someone has already done what Joe is asking, but for the life of me I cant remember where I saw the video of the guy describing the setup.
I remember he had it in his garage along one wall. The thing rotated shelves on a chain drive. Thats all I can remember.
The rotary shelf would work, but will take a lot of extra space to make the circle. You could also do a tray-like system that you drive on to, then lift the tray and cars / loco to a storage shelf.
An elevator system would be neat too, but take a bit of engineering.
Joe and Jake check out www.switchcrafters.com Bruce has a system already designed and working. One track coming in with multi levels of storage.
Whoa… that is cool!

so much for the engineering! looks like it’s been already done.
and he even provides the drawings!!!
Thanks chuck, I knew I’d seen that somewhere. Thats it.
isn’t that Greg Elmassians storage area that I posted a link to? Or was it only a link on his web site? Greg?
Brilliant!
Hmmm, maybe someone above doesn’t want me to have a RR outback?? Hopefully it starts drying up soon.
Wotta mess, Joe! Mine was even worse 'til the club came over on Sunday to help me get things moving in the right direction. I had building material built up for the past three years and it was high time to put it to proper use, and we did pretty well too.
Don’t give up Joe. It’ll all work out great in the end and you’ll be glad you persisted. Ask me how I know this.
We got a little rain overnight. Hmmm… more than a little it seems. My gondolas out back are filled to overflowing. If you measure a B’mann Gon you’ll see that’s a heap of rain for just one night. Darn city’s flooded all over the place, highways closed, rivers way over their banks, cars stalled in deep water all over, cops stretched out pretty thin today.
This kinda’ stuff normally only happens somewhere else, but today we really got it here. Basement’s wet but mercifully not actually flooded - we’re on fairly high ground on our street.
Backyard’s ok. Soaking wet, but ok. Let’s move on!
I forgot about this post until I did a search. I still miss Marty C.!
Did I ever post the trains coming out of the shed?
Just came across this thread. Love the look of the new shed. I have been building one myself, and your choice of roof inspired me. I am not having much luck finding metal roofing like that around here. Where did you find the materials?
