Large Scale Central

New passenger cars

Thank-you all for the compliments. Ralph, I have no idea what I want for decals at this time. Terry, I will get some pics of them on the RR, but I do not have video capability at this time. Jon, the hardest part is cutting all the parts exactly the same and then holding them still while you solder. Bruce, here are a couple of closeups of the hinge detail. Not real easy to see with the rail mounted but I think you will get the idea. Insert the wire in the tube first, then attach the tube to the rail and then the ends of the wire to the gate.

Hope this makes it clearer. Enjoy, Ron

Ron this is most execlent work. I was wondering which issuses or GR the plans came from as their web site does not go back that far. Thanks for posting the build photos and descriptions.

Thanks Ron. That helps a lot. That railing really looks good.

Great build Ron. Looks like lots of satisfaction there.

This would make for a great article here, Ron. Also a good one for Garden Railways.

Wow!!! These cars are great! Beautiful work!

Nice build! I made this same plan up about 6 years ago.

I agree......nice metal work and love the hinges!!

Ron I meant to ask you, how are you doing the queen posts? Looks like a cotter pin or wire bent to a similar shape and then something around it. On my truss rods so far I have been bending wire around to form the ‘eye’ and then using a eyelet from the sewing section at Wallyworld to simulate the post. Your method looks much better.

Buy some fish hooks and cut the eye off of them

Thank you all for the comments. Makes it all worth while.
Ed, The cars plan is #55 and came in the April 2002 issue. The trucks are plan #53 from Dec 2001. Just checked the GR website and both back issues are still available. The plans come with them.

Randy, For truss rods I use 1/16 welding rod, easily cut with side cutters and not expensive, easy to find. The queen posts are 1/16 cotter pins. ( I buy a box of 100, 1/16 x 1" for a couple of dollars and cut shorter if needed) I use a piece of plastic tube to space the truss rod out from the needle beam. Adjust the length according to the length of the queen post for your model. I know that the real QP did not go all the way around the truss rod but this is easy and as I have said, I am not building a scale model here. The fish hook idea will work well too if you have a source for large hooks. I don’t and I think they would probably be more expensive.

Bruce, if Bob wanted to move this to the article section I would be OK with that. I have no idea how to do it. As for G/R I never really thought about it, but maybe I should.

Thank you all and enjoy

Ron

Thanks Ron
I think I have thoes issues but did not remember the plans. this build has inspired me to get off my lazy but and just start building something.
